Studying Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety at Weber State

Students majoring in Weber State's Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) designer Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) degree gain the knowledge and skills to help protect and enhance the health of workers and communities across the nation.

Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Highlights

Weber State’s OEHS degree is the only program of its kind in Utah, and one of only a few in the nation. Our graduates are trained to meet the growing demand for OEHS professionals in all industries, including academia, government agencies and non-profit organizations. Students grow and enhance their skills in areas such as occupational health hazards, leadership, risk management, problem-solving and more.

This degree follows the BIS format with three areas of concentration.

  1. Health: taken at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ but facilitated through the University of Utah and split between summer, fall and spring semesters.
  2. Safety:  will be available for registration in spring 2025.
  3. Student Choice: You may choose any minor offered through the BIS program and begin taking these courses anytime.

Students in the program are also part of the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health, which provides resources and additional training for those pursuing careers in occupational and environmental health and safety.

Beyond the Classroom

As part of a collaboration with the University of Utah, 91¶ÌÊÓƵ offers courses in OEHS as part of the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies program. This effort allows students to attend classes at both 91¶ÌÊÓƵ and the University of Utah, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with other students.

The program also provides a pathway for certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by helping graduates achieve an intermediate credential as a Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP), a significant step in obtaining the CSP.
