Studying Respiratory Therapy at Weber State

Weber State is among the few universities to offer a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy, preparing students to care for patients and save lives as certified respiratory therapists.

Respiratory Therapy Highlights

Weber State is the country’s largest baccalaureate school for respiratory therapy. While other programs only offer an associate’s degree, an increasing number of employers are looking for candidates with a bachelor’s degree.

Weber State offers respiratory therapy courses in three locations:

  • 91¶ÌÊÓƵ’s main campus in Ogden
  • 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Davis in Layton
  • Salt Lake City

Beyond the Classroom

As a respiratory therapy major, you’ll gain practical experience in caring for patients through internships with hospitals and clinics across the Wasatch Front.

Allie Green

Class of 2024

“Weber State literally developed my skills where I was able to help save (another student's) life. I definitely do feel prepared for the future.”

Audrey Young

Class of 2024

“This has given me more perspective on what it’s like to be a patient. I hope that in my career I can help patients who are going through a similar experience, so they know they’re not alone.”

What You’ll LEARN at Weber

Weber State’s respiratory therapy courses focus on diseases of the heart and lungs, equipment used in respiratory therapy, drugs as therapeutic agents, administration of medical gases, artificial ventilation techniques, diagnostic procedures, life support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

You’ll also learn to treat patients facing a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pneumonia.

What You CAN DO After Weber

The respiratory therapy program prepares you to become a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Once certified, graduates find careers in newborn intensive care, adult critical care, emergency rooms, air and ground transport, and sleep medicine.

Upon graduation, you can transition into Weber State’s Master of Science in Respiratory Therapy or enter graduate studies in another medical field. If you have questions, contact a 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Career Advisor.

Faculty Perspective

We spend a lot of time together in our program. In fact, we often say we become like family. The program is pretty intense, but we are determined to get through it together. I’m fully committed to helping my students succeed.
