Technical Theatre Highlights

As a technical theatre major, you’ll learn from world-renowned faculty and industry practitioners, while working with industry-standard equipment used in theatre, dance and other performing arts.

Weber State graduates have had successful careers on Broadway and in major regional theaters, tours and production shops, as well as allied fields like architecture, film and industrial events.

Beyond the Classroom

Weber State’s Department of Performing Arts regularly pairs students with exciting internship opportunities in Utah, New York City, Los Angeles and throughout the world.

You can network and meet peers in the Associated Actors & Technicians student club, which brings students from all areas of theatre together for student-directed performances and experimental theatre, and Weber’s chapter of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), an organization dedicated to advancing theatre education.

Technical theatre covers numerous topics that make the show go on, including script analysis, stage makeup, stagecraft, costume fundamentals, lighting fundamentals, stage management and computer software for theatre.

I'm proud of the unique professionalizing and travel study opportunities we offer in technical theatre. In the last two years alone, we've created 25 individual apprenticeships with New York City theatre companies for our students, and most were supported with university funding for their travel and housing.
