Join Empower Utah! Weber State's Sustainability Team in collaboration with the Campus Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is providing free, in-home direct installations of energy efficiency upgrades for low-to moderate income households. By participating in Empower Utah, you will receive free energy efficiency upgrades, which may include weatherstripping, efficient lighting, and other low-tech energy-saving upgrades. Our team cannot accept payment or upsell anything we do within your home. You will never be charged for our services or materials.

This is a great opportunity to lower your energy bills and reduce your environmental footprint. Take a step toward a more sustainable home!

Examples of Free Low-Tech Interventions We Can Do In Your Home

  • Seal Leaks and Drafts: Provide weatherstripping or caulking to seal gaps around windows and doors. This can prevent warm or cool air from escaping, reducing your heating and cooling costs. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that weatherstripping can result in energy savings of 5 to 10 percent, while caulking could save 10 to 20 percent.
  • Installing Low-Flow Faucets/Shower Heads: Utilizing Low-Flow technology can be an effective water conservation tool while also saving you money on water bills, without losing good water pressure. The average family could save 2,700 gallons per year by installing WaterSense labeled showerheads and could save more than 330 kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
  • Use Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs: By upgrading 5 light fixtures to LED bulbs, households can cut utility bills by over $25 a year according to Energy STAR. LED bulbs use approximately 85% less energy than traditional light bulbs while providing the same amount of light.
