- On the Start button (), type Control Panel, click on the Control Panel app.
- Choose Windows Firewall
- Make sure the Windows Firewall is on for all three types of networks
- Domain Network settings: Turn on Windows Firewall - Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new app
- Private Netowork setting: Turn on Windows Firewall - Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new app
- Public Network settings: Turn on Windows Firewall - Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new app
- Options should set as:
- Domain networks - Connected
- Private newworks - Not Connected
- Guest or Publick networks - Not Connected
Firewall Features
Use the Operating System's Firewall
All university-owned workstations must have the host operating system firewall enabled. Firewalls block unwanted network traffic that you don’t need and that could pose a threat.
To verify that they host-based firewall is turned on:
Windows 10
Windows 8
- On the Start button (), type Control Panel, click on the Control Panel app.
- Choose System and Security.
- Choose "Check firewall status" under Windows Firewall.
Windows 7
- Click the Start button (), select Control Panel.
- Choose System and Security.
- Choose "Check firewall status" under Windows Firewall.
Mac
- From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences, then Security & Privacy.
- Click the Firewall tab.
- Click the lock icon and authenticate with your administrator username and password.
