Registration for Clinics 

Check out our clinic options for 2024. We are bringing in top educators and professionals to introduce participants to cutting edge ideas and techniques to take their climbing to the next level. There will be clinics for everyone, regardless of whether this is your first climbing experience or if you are an accomplished alpinist. Clinic options are limited for Minors, and we are working on opening up access as much as possible.  See the clinic descriptions below for age restrictions before processing registration.  Participants under 18 years of age must be accompanied (for the duration of the clinic) by a legal guardian. Guardian must read and sign participation waiver. We highly recommend that you print, read, and sign the  before arriving to your clinic. Forms will be available at the registration table for last minute registrations. 

Pre-registration 

Pre-registration is open online - look for links to the online store in the clinic descriptions below!  Online registration will close at 10 p.m. on 4/4/24.  If you have inquiries regarding clinic registration, email hayleyprine@weber.edu.  Space is limited in the clinics, so be sure to register as soon as possible to ensure you can get your first choice!

PREPARE TO SELF RESCUE

Timing: Saturday 4/6/24 || 12-5pm

Location: 22nd St Trailhead

Participants must be 18 or older for this clinic. 

The best-laid plans of mice and men oft go astray. Join us for a clinic of discussions and hands-on skills where we'll discuss and practice safe techniques of retreat, creative methods of advancement, planning, pertinent equipment and when/how to call for help. 

Necessary Equipment: Personal climbing gear (helmet, harness, rock shoes). Optional but helpful: belay device with guide mode (BD ATC Guide/Petzl Reverso, etc), locking and non locking carabiners, prusik loop(s) - sewn/manufactured or knotted cord loops, extra cordelette and/or slings of various lengths. Trad gear welcome.

TRAD SKILLS INTRO - PLACEMENTS, ANCHORS

Timing: Saturday 4/6/24 || 9am - 12pm

Location: See pre-course email from instructors. 22nd St Trailhead 

Participants must be 18 or older for this clinic. 

Have you always been intrigued by the traditional climbing protection hanging behind the counter at the gear store? Do you want to take you climbing into the mountains where you don't have to follow a line of pre-drilled bolts to the anchor? Join our Trad Skills Intro clinic. Participants will learn about the different types of traditional protection available, when their use is appropriate, how to place them into the rock effectively, and how to build solid anchors.

SPORT CLIMBING ANCHORS 

Timing: Saturday 4/6/24 || 12 - 2pm

Location: Ramp Technical Training Center (91¶ÌÊÓƵ Outdoor Adventure and Welcome Center) - 1352 Village Dr, Ogden, UT 84408

Minors will need a guardian-signed waiver to participate. Participants must be 14  yrs old or older.

Building solid anchors is a central and critical skill in a climbers development, and there are so many resources available for folks to find online - but which should you trust? When should you choose a pre-distributed anchor vs self, distributing? How do you ensure your self-distributing anchor is redundant? Come build your toolbox of sport anchor options and crag etiquette.

Necessary Equipment: Personal climbing gear (helmet, harness, rock shoes), any anchor materials you commonly use: locking and non-locking carabiners, slings, cordelette, etc

LEARN TO LEAD (OUTDOORS) 

Timing: Saturday 4/6/24 || 11:30 - 3:30pm

Location: See pre-course email from instructors. 9th St Trailhead

Participants must be 18 or older for this clinic. 

Do you feel confident top roping outdoors and want to start leading? This clinic will help you build confidence in the skills necessary for leading sport routes. Potential topics covered: rope/gear management, clipping techniques and stances, mock leading, postential live leading.

Necessary Equipment: Personal climbing gear (helmet, harness, rock shoes). Optional: belay device, quickdraws, rope, anchor materials

If you need to borrow a harness, helmet or shoe from the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Outdoor Program, please let us know priot to Saturday.

KNOTS AND HITCHES

Timing: Saturday 4/6/24 || 2:30 - 4pm

Location: Ramp Technical Training Center (91¶ÌÊÓƵ Outdoor Adventure and Welcome Center) - 1352 Village Dr, Ogden, UT 84408

Climbing is all about creating your metaphorical tool box! Come learn and practice some common knots and hitches and discuss the proper applications of those tools. We will also be teaching you how to create a prusik loop for all your friction hitch needs. Need a third hand? Come make your own at this clinic! 

Necessary Equipment: N/A - feel free to bring gear and questions about application

MULTI PITCH TRANSITIONS (LGBTQ+)

Timing: Sunday 4/7/24 || 11am - 4pm

Location: Ramp Technical Training Center (91¶ÌÊÓƵ Outdoor Adventure and Welcome Center) - 1352 Village Dr, Ogden, UT 84408

Minors will need a guardian-signed waiver to participate. Participants must be 16  yrs old or older.

Come join this queer community affinity clinic! We are also offering a multi pitch skills clinic without an affinity designation the same day.

Continue putting the pieces together to build a perfect multi pitch climbing day. Practice in a closed environment before attemting multi pitch climbing in consequential terrain! Come build your toolbox of multipitch specific skills and etiquette. Possible topics covered: equipment considerations, rope management in hanging and standing belays, effective communication and transitions with a parter at each pitch.

Pre-Requesites: Participants must be able to lead climb and have some basic knowledge of sport anchor best practices.

Necessary Equipment: Personal climbing gear (helmet, harness, rock shoes), any anchor materials you commonly use: locking and non-locking carabiners, slings, cordelette, etc
