Wildcat students compete in the Marketstar Sales Analytics Competition

LOGAN – Students involved in the Professional Sales Student Association competed in the 3rd annual Marketstar Sales Analytics Competition at Utah State University in Logan, UT. The competition held on October 8-9, challenged students from universities across the state in multiple sales competitions and events. The competition, sponsored by Marketstar gives students the opportunity to showcase their presentation and communication skills and get professional hands-on experience in the sales world.
“Overall, I had a great time at the Marketstar competition. It was an excellent opportunity to network with students from other schools, as well as the marketstar team.” Said Asia Bennett, a junior Professional Sales student from Farmington.
PSSA students from Weber State competed against students from Southern Utah University, Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, as well as competitors from the host institution, Utah State University. At this competition, students were able to compete in three different events. On Thursday, October 8th, 91¶ÌÊÓƵ students attended the speed-selling competition, where they met with representatives from four sponsoring companies and delivered a 60-second pitch selling themselves as to why they would be a valuable hire. The speed-selling competition gave students the opportunity to network with those companies and develop their own personal pitches.
“The speed-selling event is great because it gives students the chance to sell themselves.” Said Brock Adams, the Advisor for the PSSA. “Students need to have this as one of the tools in their bag so that when they go on the job market, they have a natural pitch as to why they are a valuable employee.”
On Friday, Weber State PSSA students competed in the main team sales competition which was broken up into two different tracks, the data analytics approach, and the sales and marketing approach. In these events, teams were given a real-world situation and asked to present their pitch to a panel of judges from Marketstar. While the data approach was more focused on understanding quantitative analytics than the sales and marketing approach, both presentations targeted students delivering quality sales pitches in a team format.
“Presenting and working with my team was the best part. I am grateful for the feedback that the judges gave us as I can integrate their critiques into my own personal sales career and other competitions” said Asia Bennett.
Bennett, along with junior, Marcos Carlini were two Weber State students who won the Most Valuable Sales Representative from their respective rooms. Junior Cooper Raymond also took home an award, taking third place for his block in the speed-selling competition on Thursday night.
The USU Marketstar Sales Competition was the first event on the sales competition cycle for the 2021-22 school year. The PSSA will be competing in 11 additional regional, national, and international sales competitions this year.
