Personal

My husband, Tim, and I live in Ogden, UT. We moved to Utah from West Virginia in 2004. I am originally from Florida, but have lived all over the East coast.  I love the outdoors and have really enjoyed Utah's skiing, hiking, and wildlife.

 

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that a teacher must be a facilitator of learning and a motivating force that guides the student through the learning process and teaches the student the skills necessary to be a lifetime learner. This is accomplished by a variety of techniques described below. However, the most important ingredient in the learning process is the building of a personal relationship between a knowledgeable teacher and a student, such that individual student needs can be addressed on a personal level.

Teaching should be so much more than simply disseminating information. The role of a teacher is to be a facilitator of learning, allowing students to take responsibility for their education. Because students learn in such a variety of ways, teaching techniques must be varied to allow them multiple opportunities to grasp each major concept. While traditional lecturing is sometimes unavoidable, class discussions, group work, interactive technology, and independent discovery should predominate.
