Football Throwback

After the fall 2019 issue of Wildcat, which featured an article celebrating 100 years of 91¶ÌÊÓƵ football, arrived in mailboxes, former quarterback Tom Musgrave AS ’55 wrote to the story’s author Matt Gerrish BS ’10, MPC ’15 to share his experiences on the team.

As we celebrate the team’s third straight Big Sky championship, we’re happy to share some of Tom’s recollections with his teammates and other alumni.

Dear Mr. Gerrish,

I just received and read the Fall 2019 Alumni Magazine. I enjoy reading it. Weber State and I have a long shared history. I would like to inform you of a little known piece of Weber State football history. I attended Weber Jr. College in the year 1953–54 [the first year Weber football games were played on the current Weber State campus].

During this time I was the starting quarterback, a defensive back, and a co-captain. I had a few firsts in the stadium. They were first completed pass, first player wearing the number 9, and first quarterback running a touchdown. These may be interesting but unimportant. I just had to tell someone after reading the fall edition.

Let it also be noted that all my teammates were the first in their respective numbers, positions, and plays. In the 1954–55 year we played Pasadena Jr. College in the Rose Bowl Stadium.

In 2000, I retired after a very enjoyable career as a Professor of Psychology at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ.

Thank you for the job you do.

Sincerely

Tom Musgrave
