How many students apply to the Dental Hygiene Program each year?
Approximately 200 applications are reviewed each year for 32 positions within the new class.
What criteria are most important when applying to the program?
It's always important to have good grades in college. Your science grade-point average (GPA) and overall GPA are factored into the review process. To get a full view and understanding of requirements please speak with an Advisor in the Office of 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Advisement.
Do I have to have dental assisting experience?
It's very important to know what you're getting into when you choose a career path. We encourage you to have dental experience if you're considering this health professions field.
Does the Dental Hygiene Program have a part time option?
No. The program is a "lock-step" design where students are admitted and continue through the program together, as a class. It is an on-campus program and considered full-time.
If I went to a different dental hygiene program and want to earn an advanced degree (baccalaureate degree) is that possible at Weber State?
Yes. We have a degree completion option in which a licensed Dental Hygienist applies to 91¶ÌÊÓƵ and completes a contract of study with the Dental Hygiene Department Chair, taking upper-division credits to complete a Bachelor of Science degree. For further information, please contact our office.
Why should I choose Weber State's Dental Hygiene Program?
91¶ÌÊÓƵ's Dental Hygiene program is the first in the state of Utah. It began in 1975 and has graduated many exceptional dental hygienists.
As a dental hygiene program housed in a university setting, we have many university advantages when comparing our program to others. Our faculty and staff are dedicated professionals who want the best for all students.
What do I do to become a practicing licensed Dental Hygienist in the State of Utah?

- Be a graduate from a CODA accredited dental hygiene program
- Pass the National Board Dental Hygiene Exam
- Pass a clinical board exam that is accepted in Utah
- Pass the local anesthesia exam(s)

For 2025-2026, the estimated cost for the two-year AS Dental Hygiene Program is as follows:
- Tuition & fees: $13,600 ($3,400 x 4 semesters)
- Instruments: $3,800 (For both Jr & Sr years)
- Loupes: $2,000 (Jr Year)
- Textbooks: $800 (Over 4 semesters)
- Uniforms & shoes: $450 (Jr & Sr Year)
- Professional Association Dues and Misc.: $600 (Jr & Sr Years)
