Mission & Vision

Mission

The Utah AHEC Program and Regional Centers help current and future health professionals acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to practice in a transformed health system for medically under-served rural and urban communities. This is done through strategic partnerships with academic programs, communities, and professional organizations to improve the geographic distribution of health professionals and the transformation of health systems to enhance well-being, quality, efficiency of care and health outcomes for all Utahans.

Vision

Northern Utah AHEC works in collaboration with the Utah AHEC Program and Regional Centers to facilitate education for current and future health professionals to prepare them for practice in medically under-served rural and urban areas in a health system transformed to lower costs, enhance quality, improve the satisfaction of healthcare professionals, and improve population health outcomes.

Phases

Utah AHEC Program and Regional Centers fulfill this mission by engaging individuals at five phases of health professions:

  • Phase 1: K-12 outreach and recruitment
  • Phase 2: Undergraduate/ pre-professional training
  • Phase 3: Medical/ health professional training
  • Phase 4: Residency/practical field placement
  • Phase 5: Continuing education/professional development

Health Sciences (HTHS) 2910

Health Information Literacy, Healthcare System & Career Exploration is a 4 credit hour 91¶ÌÊÓƵ DCHP course delivered through the NUAHEC Medical Scholars program. The course explores pathways that can lead to meaningful and rewarding careers in healthcare. Evidence-based practice is incorporated into the research process as well, which enables students to identify information needs, select, evaluate and ultimately utilize health information to make informed decisions. This course emphasizes critical thinking as well, and prepares students to join conversations on important topics in healthcare as informed and responsible participants.
