ADN Course Requirements

Welcome Students

Our program is learning-intensive and time-consuming. You will be required to complete course work, clinical work, skills testing, theory testing, and more.

We strongly recommend that you work no more than 24 hours per week during the course of your program. If your family and home commitments are high, we recommend you curtail outside employment even further.

In order to enroll in nursing courses, you must have applied and been accepted to the ADN program.

All non-nursing courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher. Grades of C- or lower will not count toward credits you need to graduate.

The nursing program dates and deadlines override Continuing Education, online and distance learning guidelines. Prerequisite courses must be completed and grades posted the Friday before nursing courses start.

Prerequisite Courses

All accepted students must complete science option I or II as a prerequisite to begin the program.  Additionally, a current CNA certification or EMT certification must be active and current by the first day of class.

  • HTHS 1110 (LS) - Integrated Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4)
  • HTHS 1111 - Integrated Human Anatomy & Physiology II (4)
  • CHEM 1130 (PS)/1135 - Intro. to General, Organic & Biochemistry (5)*
  • MATH 1030 (QL) [Quantitative Literacy Requirement] (3) **

Science Option II

  • ZOOL 2320 (2100) - Human Anatomy (4)
  • ZOOL 2420 (LS) (2200) - Human Physiology (4)
  • CHEM 1130 (PS)/1135 - Intro to General, Organic & Biochemistry (5)*
  • MATH 1030 (QL) [Quantitative Literacy Requirement] (3)**

*CHEMISTRY NOTE: If CHEM 1130 (PS)/1135 is not available then take CHEM 1110 (PS) & CHEM 1115 (5). In addition, some graduate nursing programs require two sections of chemistry; therefore, CHEM 1110 and CHEM 1120 would be a best choice. Consult an academic advisor for more information. Other Chemistry equivalents may exist; see advisor.

**Quantitative Literacy note:  QL. level equivalencies exist; see advisor.

Bonus courses for additional application points (not required): Intro. Pathophysiology (HTHS 2230), Intro. Microbiology (MICR 1113) (LS), and Nutrition (NUTR 1020) (LS).

You must be accepted to the Annie Taylor Dee School of Nursing to register for nursing courses. All nursing courses must be passed with a grade of B- (80 percent) or higher to proceed in the program.

First Semester 

  • NRSG 2100 - Pharmacology for Nurses I (1.5)
  • NRSG 2200 - Nursing Foundations (3)
  • NRSG 2251 - INT/CEL- Nursing Foundations of NRSG Lab & Clinical (4.5)
  • General Education course(s) (6 hours) if not finished before starting (Social Science elective other than Psych or Human Development, one on other HU/CA).

Second Semester 

  • NRSG 2300 - Patient-Centered Nursing Care I (3)
  • NRSG 2351 - INT/CEL - Patient-Centered Nursing Care Experience I (4.5)
  • NRSG 2700 - Pharmacology for Nurses II (1.5)
