Practical to Registered Nursing Program (PN to RN)

Intended for licensed practical nurses currently working OR those having successfully graduated from a contracted technical college and are eligible for licensure, our Practical to Registered Nursing Program allows you to earn an Associate of Applied Science (68 credit hours) or Associate of Science (86 credit hours) and prepare for entry-level, clinical practice as a registered nurse.

After graduation, you will be eligible to take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing licensure exam (NCLEX-RN) to become a licensed registered nurse.

Requirements

This entry option is open to licensed practical nurses or those who are NCLEX-eligible as a practical nurse in the state of Utah.

Entering students enroll for the second year of the nursing program, and graduates take the NCLEX-RN at completion of this curricular year.
 

Costs

Estimated Program Costs: Books/Materials/NCLEX Prep- $850, Verified Credentials - $150, MyClinicalExchange- $20, and Scrubs - $50.

Students are responsible for costs incurred when enrolled in courses necessitating travel to community agencies.

Additional program and facility requirements that may incur additional costs to students. Please review Student Documentation Requirements in the SON Student Handbook (starts at the bottom of page 14). These requirements are mandatory.

 

Licensure & Certification Requirements

First-Year Associate’s Degree

First-year associate’s degree nursing students are entitled to complete licensed practical nurse (LPN) boards at the end of their first year. In order to be licensed as an LPN in Utah, applicants must be in conformity with the Utah Nurse Practice Act. The Utah Nurse Practice Act and licensing forms are available on the Internet at . Applicants who have been convicted of a felony or treated for mental illness or substance abuse should discuss their eligibility status with the Utah State Board of Nursing.
