Getting the Most from a Writing Center Tutoring Session

• Remember that you can talk with a tutor before you write the paper in order to understand the instructions or brainstorm ideas to research or write about. You can have as many tutoring sessions as you like while you develop and edit your writing.
• Plan your time, coming in early in the writing process and leaving yourself time to revise. You may also want one or more follow-up sessions, and planning well allows you time to revise well and edit well.
• Bring a description of the assignment, if available, and be as familiar as you can with your professor’s expectations.
• Unless you are seeking a brainstorming session, bring a copy of your most recent draft of your paper or digital project. Also, our printers are available to print works to be tutored, and you can open your Adobe projects on our computers.
• Let the tutor know what you are most concerned about, and be sure to ask questions. This relationship is meant to support your ability to compose and revise with confidence and skill.
• If you make an appointment, be certain to arrive 5-10 minutes early in order to get the nearest available tutor to your time slot. Arriving late means losing the appointment slot, but you can still get in line for a drop-in session.

The Writing Center is a place where students can drop in to consult with tutors on writing for any class or project.

The Writing Center is located in Elizabeth Hall, Room 210.

The Writing Center is a service that is free to all 91¶ÌÊÓƵ students--take advantage of it!

Any 91¶ÌÊÓƵ student is welcome to use the Writing Center.

Students come to the Writing Center seeking consultation with grammar, organization, thesis statements, citations, and various other writing-related concerns. A Writing Center tutor will sit with you and address your concerns for any writing, from creative pieces to lab reports to graduate school essays.

The Writing Center tutors are students from our very own university. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and majors, from technical writing to nursing.

Appointments & Sessions

No. Because our focus is to support students in improving their writing skills, our practice is to meet with students one-to-one, either face-to-face or online. The revising process is the best way to learn, and we encourage students to be fully engaged in it.

Appointment--We have our calendar set up for the semester's availablity so that students can plan ahead and make appointments in advance by coming to the Writing Center front desk or by calling us at 801-626-6463. Making appointments is especially recommended during certain times of the semester when more students will be seeking our services, such as during midterms and finals.

We will do everything we can to accommodate you, but please don't leave assignments for the last minute!

No worries. Your appointment spot will be given to a waiting student, and you can be next in the drop-in queue.
If you prefer, you can jump online and have your session from any pc or laptop -- just message us at write@weber.edu. 
You can also reset your appointment for another time. 
If you need to cancel, Chat or email us at write@weber.edu, call our center at 801-626-6463, or simply come in.

Each session is set for approximately 30 minutes. Depending on the availability of tutors and the number of students signed up for that day, sessions may go longer if needed. However, if you find that you need more time, we encourage you to return! Also, if you make an online appointment, you can elect to set your time for an hour if you prefer.

Please bring a printed copy of your writing, any materials or guidelines, and questions or concerns about your writing and/or the requirements.
