Ashleigh
Leadership Minor, 2022
Why Weber State?
I originally came to 91¶ÌÊÓƵ with the intention to make a difference in our education system. I thought becoming a physical education teacher was how I was going to do it—then COVID-19 hit. I was coaching cross country at Fremont High School (go Silverwolves), and I quickly realized I was not cut out to manage the high schoolers. So I went back to the drawing board. At this time, I was invited to a research lab on campus. I quickly fell in love with neuroscience and changed my major to a bachelor of integrated studies. One of my mentors suggested I do leadership for one of my BIS disciplines. This was hands down one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Why Leadership?
Having leadership as a discipline has been incredibly impactful and meaningful to me and has enabled me to already making a difference in our education system here at Weber State.
Incredible Access
The Goddard School is so unique because all of the faculty members I have studied under are beyond passionate about what they do, and they are willing to do whatever they can to help you.
Faculty Impact
Jennifer Anderson greatly impacted my life. I met her in one of the worst situations I have faced. She provided support, mentorship and a collaborative environment when I needed it. She has taught me everything I used to redefine myself, impact others lives, and how to rise to the occasion. Without her, I can honestly say I do not know where I would be.
Advice
Do it. It's not easy, but you will get so much out of it.
Career Aspirations?
Waiting to reapply to Ph.D. programs for cell and molecular neuroscience. I want to get a Ph.D. and make an impact on many lives through research and by becoming a professor.
