Master of Taxation, 2024
Why Weber State?
After receiving my BSc in Public Accountancy from Brooklyn College, NY, I waited for quite some time before looking for a school to complete my master’s degree. This was in part because my requirements were exact: in order to become a CPA in New York, I needed a university that was AASCB double accredited in both business and accounting, I needed it to be remote, and the schedule needed to be accommodating and flexible. My search narrowed my options down to Weber State. The curriculum was well thought out, the tuition was affordable, and the university's approach stood out for its unique offering of real-time participation in in-person lectures. Everyone was accommodating and nice. All of my questions were answered. Everything just made sense.
Why Master of Taxation?
I am an experienced accountant: I’ve been employed as a controller for 15 years in the private sector. But taxation was something that was missing. The picture was not really complete. Although I have kept hundreds of books, the tax side was not complete; and tax is complex. I wanted that knowledge to round out my education.
Faculty Impact
I loved all of the taxation faculty: Darcie Costello, Ryan Pace, and Eric Smith. Each one was different. Darcie stood out in her communication style. Ryan with his legal background was very precise and had a great sense of humor, and Eric is very personable.

What’s Next
I work for a luxury goods company as a controller. It's a small wholesaler. I'd like to move forward, but I'm unsure of which direction at this point. I will finish my CPA exams and then find an opportunity in the public sector, then become a CFO. I also entertain the possibility of opening my own practice.
