Teaching Philosophy & Focus

The beauty of the world comes to us through patterns, and every pattern can be described through a number sequence. My focus in education is to share with others how the relationship between the world's patterns and numbers occur. I believe that demystifying math concepts to others through real world examples is essential to showing that there is no "magic" in math, only patterns. After the "magic" is removed from the concepts and the pattern building is constructed, the learning and application of math concepts gives people the freedom to confidently explore new areas of their education that they never thought of trying. My philosophy of education is to help students see the interconnection of numbers and their world.

Courses Taught

Math 0950 - Prealgebra,
Math 0990 - Algebra,
Math 1010 - Intermediate Algebra,
Math 1050 - College Algebra,
Math 2010 - Arithmetic for Elementary Teachers

Research Areas & Interests

I am always interested in finding new approaches to explain math concepts to students, whether that be through technology, tangible objects, or dialog. The human brain processes knowledge through all of the body's senses, so I love trying to figure out methods of learning which my students are able to comprehend and enjoy.

Current Projects

In my off-time, I love to be outdoors, especially mountain biking. I find that unplugging from the world and enjoying nature refuels my body and mind.
