91¶ÌÊÓƵ Program Expectations

The 91¶ÌÊÓƵ paramedic program is a taught in a linear or sequential model. Knowledge and skills that are taught in the beginning of the program are foundational. As the program continues to build, all previous skills and knowledgemust be maintained. Please see below the various methods Weber State uses to verify immediate and longstanding competencies. Should a student not achieve each of the competencies below, progression in the program is stopped.

PAR 2000 – Introduction to Paramedic

  • 22 open book quizzes
  • 1 EMTsecure (proctored)exam

PAR 2020 – Trauma Emergencies

  • 6open book quizzes
  • 1 secure(proctored)unit exam

  • 1 final exam – 75% required on no more than two attempts

PAR 2030 – Special Populations

  • 6open book quizzes

PAR 3010 – Cardiac and Medical Emergencies

  • 16-20 open book quizzes

  • 75% average needed to progress
  • 2 EKG/ACLS Verbal Treatment exams
  • 1 EKG/ACLS Verbal Treatment Exam Benchmark
  • Must be passed on no more than 3 attempts
  • 1 final exam – 75% required on no more than two attempts

PAR 2040 – Paramedic Skill Lab

  • Cardiac Team Management (NRP Portfolio) Benchmark
  • Must be passed on no more than 3 attempts
  • Pediatric Team Management(NRP Portfolio)Benchmark

PAR 2100 – Advanced Paramedic Practice

  • PowerPoint Assignment with bulleted review sheet
  • 2 secure(proctored)EKG Exams
  • 1 secure (proctored) Pharmacology Exam
  • 1 EKG Competency Exam Benchmark (Must be passed with 80% on no more than 2 attempts)
  • ACLS Verification Exam Benchmark (must be passed with 84% on no more than 2 attempts)
  • PALS Verification Exam Benchmark (must be passed with 84% on no more than 2 attempts)
  • Oral Examination Boards Benchmark with Dr. Apfelbaum (must be passed on no more than 2 attempts)
  • PAR 2100 Comprehensive Benchmark Exam (must be passed with 80% on no more than 2 attempts)

PAR 2110 – Clinical Expectations:(240 hours)

  • Completion of cardiac catheterization rotation
  • Completion of emergency department rotation
  • Completion of operating room rotation
  • Completion of psychiatric unit rotation
  • Completion of pediatric rotation
  • Completion of obstetrics rotation
  • All clinical requirements must be adequately documented and completed prior to field internship

PAR 2120 – Field Internship Expectations:(480 hours)

  • Students are assigned a specific proctor. Students must mimic their proctor's schedule – no switching proctors allowed without prior approval.
  • Completion of 50 successful ALS team leads.
  • Satisfactory and timely completion of field internship documentation.
  • Recommendation of "basic entry level" competency by the student's proctoris required.
