Our Story
Ogden Peak Communications (OPC) was founded in Fall 2012 as the brainchild of the communication department chair, Sheree Josephson. The formation of this student-run firm was one of her first official decisions as chair. She recognized the need for an organization that would provide an environment for practical, real-world application of industry principles for our public relations & advertising students.
Yeonsoo Kim, a former faculty member, and a group of pioneering students formed OPC and welcomed our first clients that fall. Organizationally, OPC and Weber State’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) functioned as an almost indistinguishable unit. Such a relationship presented both opportunities for engagement, and challenges in separation of mission and focus. Nicola Corbin, associate professor, assumed the position of faculty adviser of both organizations in the Fall 2014, upon Kim’s departure from the university.
In Fall 2016, OPC formally separated its executive board, and functioning, from that of PRSSA. The following year, OPC and PRSSA were given separate faculty advisers, with Corbin contining to advise OPC.
Over the years, clients for OPC have included: Sweet Spot Bakery, Weber Pathways, Intermountain Donor Services, American Red Cross Northern Utah, the Major Brent Taylor Foundation, Bonneville Communities That Care, the United Way of Northern Utah and the Hall Global Entrepreneurship Center.
