1.0     PURPOSE

This policy outlines the ability of the President to create an organizational structure in order to support the University.

2.0     POLICY
        
2.1    Organizational Structure. The President may create an administrative staff and organizational structure of adequate size and efficiently organized as deemed appropriate by the President to fulfill the mission and strategic goals of the University and to assist the President in fulfilling the President’s responsibilities. 

2.2     College or Division Organization. A college or division is (1) an administrative organization of related departments or functions of departments, or (2) a unit of instruction and administration representing a recognized professional field. 

2.2.1     Vice Presidents. The President may appoint a provost and one or more vice presidents who shall serve for as long as deemed appropriate by the President. The provost and vice president(s) shall perform such duties as may be assigned by the President. A provost or vice president will typically serve as the organizational leader of a division. 

2.2.2    Deans and Associate/Assistant Deans. In each college there shall be an academic dean, and may be an associate/assistant academic dean(s), appointed by the President, in consultation with the provost. These officers shall serve in those roles for as long as deemed appropriate by the President. The academic dean is typically the executive officer of a college.

2.3    Academic Department. 

2.3.1    Department Organization. The academic department is the standard unit for the organization of instruction at the University. It concerns itself with the work and subjects assigned to it.  For purposes of administration, a department or program is assigned to a college but may serve other colleges or divisions.

2.3.2    Department Chairs. Each academic department will typically be administered by a department chair appointed by the President, in consultation with the provost and dean, and shall serve in that role for as long as deemed appropriate by the President. The department chair will typically be the administrator of the academic unit and will typically be responsible directly to the dean of the college to which the department is assigned. The President may also determine that a particular department or program should be located and report in a different manner, as they deem appropriate.
