1.0 PURPOSE
This policy establishes the procedure for filling or creating a vice president or provost position.

3.0 POLICY
3.1 The President may directly appoint a provost or vice president.
3.2 The President may utilize a screening committee to assist the President in the screening of a provost or vice president. If the President chooses to do so, the President may consider the following:
3.2.1 A screening committee appointed by the President may include representation from the Board of Trustees, administration, alumni, faculty, staff, and students.
3.2.2 It shall be the responsibility of the President to provide the screening committee a job description as well as such qualifications or criteria necessary for candidates to be eligible for consideration.
3.2.3 It shall be the responsibility of the President to determine the extent of advertising (on-campus, in-state, regional, or national), with consideration given to equal opportunity guidelines.
3.2.4 The screening committee shall recommend candidates to the President for consideration.
3.2.5 In the event that the President is not satisfied with the recommendations of the screening committee, the screening committee may be asked to reconsider its recommendations or to reopen the search.
3.3 The President may award tenure and/or rank upon appointment of a provost or vice president, which will normally be included in the employment offer. The President may request the credentials of a candidate be reviewed by the department/program in which the candidate desires tenure and/or faculty rank and by the College Ranking Tenure Evaluation Committee, with a recommendation given to the President. A provost or vice president who is not awarded tenure and/or rank upon appointment may be awarded academic rank and/or faculty tenure pursuant to established procedures of the institution.
