About

Mission

The Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery presents contemporary art exhibitions and educational programs that provide visitors access to the art of our times. The Shaw Gallery aspires to engage a wide-ranging audience, create a sense of community, provide insight into the creative process and challenge visitors to contemplate, discuss and understand the historical, social and cultural context of contemporary art. It serves the Department of Visual Art and Design, 91¶ÌÊÓƵ and the community of Northern Utah by presenting the work of local, regional and nationally recognized artists, including new work, emerging media and original scholarship.

Dumke Arts Plaza

Through a partnership with Ogden City, the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery curates rotating, outdoor exhibitions at the in downtown Ogden. These exhibitions showcase the work of regional, national and international artists and share world-class art with the community in a dynamic, outdoor civic space.

Donate

Private donations are an integral funding resource for annual programming at the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery. Staff

Lydia Gravis

Director of Art Exhibitions & Public Programs

Lydia Gravis has worked as Director of the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery since 2014. She's overseen over 65 exhibitions and a robust accompanying schedule of auxiliary programs that include visiting artist lectures, film screenings, outreach programs, and professional development opportunities for students. She earned her B.A. with dual majors in Visual Art and Human Studies from Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina in 2003 and her M.F.A. in Visual Art from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University in Boston, Massachusetts in 2013. She views her identity as an artist as a benefit to her role as an academic gallery director, and exhibits her own work regularly in solo and group exhibitions.  She received the Ogden Mayor's Award in the Arts in 2020, and her work is held in the Salt Lake County and State of Utah Alice Merrill Horne art collections.  She has worked in various capacities for 91¶ÌÊÓƵ since 2007, and lives and works in Ogden, Utah with her husband and two children.

Camela Corcoran

Exhibitions Manager

Camela Corcoran has been the Exhibitions Manager for the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery since February 2024. She has worked for 91¶ÌÊÓƵ in different capacities since 2009, including teaching in the Department of Visual Art & Design and managing an on-campus art supply store and custom frame shop. Camela has a lifelong background in visual art and earned her BFA from 91¶ÌÊÓƵ in 2014.  She has lived in the intermountain west most of her life and is deeply inspired by the culture and landscape which informs her own studio art practice.
