Scholarships

The 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Department of English offers a number of scholarships and awards.

To apply: Go to Financial Aid & Scholarships and follow the steps listed. Continuing 91¶ÌÊÓƵ students must complete the online scholarship application each year.

For department scholarships, complete the application in  by April 7. All awards are decided by mid-April for the following academic year. Except where otherwise noted, all scholarships will be awarded through the Department of English by a screening of applications and nominations.

You do not need to apply for a specific scholarship or scholarships. When you complete the scholarship form, you will automatically be considered for any college and departmental scholarships for which you are eligible.

Gordon T. Allred Scholarship in English
Requirements: a student in English with a GPA of 3.0 or higher

LaVon Carroll Scholarship Endowment
Requirements: a major or minor in the field of humanities

C. M. Crittenden Scholarship in English
Requirements: a declared major in English with a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Elmer H. Ericson Memorial Scholarship
Requirements: a declared major or minor in English with a GPA of 2.5 or higher

English Department Scholarship
Requirements: a declared major or minor in English with a GPA of 2.5 or higher

English Alumni & Friends Scholarship Fund 
Requirements: a declared major or minor in English with a GPA of 2.5 or higher

Mary J. Howard / Peter Aaron Olsen Scholarship
Requirements: a declared major in English with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
NOTE: Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need or other challenges, students who are engaged in co-curricular activities, community involvement or other services that enrich their life, the university or the community. A brief essay, interview or letter of nomination is required.

Linguistics Scholarship Fund
Requirements: a declared minor in linguistics, who has taken at least two courses in the linguistics minor prior to receiving the award.
NOTE: Preference will be given to students who have not previously received the scholarship.

John E. and Nancy S. Lowe English Scholarship
Requirements: a full-time freshman or sophomore undergraduate student with strong English or English writing skills, scholastic achievement, financial need and promise in their field.

Lee McKenzie English Scholarship
Requirements: a promising student poet

Someone Cares Scholarship
Requirements: a declared major or minor in English with a minimum GPA of 2.0

Floyd J. Woodfield Family Award in English
Requirements: a cash award to a graduating English major with the highest cumulative GPA
