Each application must be accompanied by a $95 application fee for international and non-U.S. resident applicants. This may be paid with a credit card using the online application form. We do not waive the application fee.
Please read the instructions below and see the Frequently Asked Questions before scheduling a pre-admissions appointment. We do not waive fees. We do not waive GRE requirements.
Admission Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
Applicants for admission to the Master of Science in Data Science program must possess a bachelor’s degree or be in the final stage of completing the degree. Applicants must complete their bachelor’s degree prior to enrollment in the MSDS program.
Applications must be completed online - please follow the instructions on the application page. You may save the application and login later to edit it before final submission.
Degrees Other than Computer Science
As determined on a case-by-case basis, students with non-computer science degrees may be required to take leveling courses in technology-related areas that will adequately prepare them for the Master of Science core courses.
The minimum leveling courses for non-computer science degrees are the following:

- 3.25 GPA
An overall GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale is required from the undergraduate program in which the bachelor’s degree is earned.
Candidates with a 3.0 - 3.24 GPA will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Application Materials

You are responsible for submitting a complete application.
The final online application process prompts you to submit your completed application. Your application will not be considered complete until you have submitted a complete online application and all necessary items have been received by the MSDS program.
Application Fee
Each MSDS application must be accompanied by a $95 application fee. Credit card is the preferred form of payment, but other forms are welcome. Additional instructions are in the online application.
Passport and Financial Statement
Once you receive an email offering admittance into the program, you will submit a copy of your passport and a financial statement to the International Student & Scholar Center. Please do not send them to the MSDS Department.
International applicants will complete additional paperwork to comply with university and U.S. immigration regulations. If you have questions about the 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ admissions process for international applicants, you may contact the 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ International Student and Scholar Center.

- Evaluated Official Transcripts
International Applicants (Degree earned at an international institution):
Obtain and submit an official course-by-course evaluation of your credentials from a foreign credential evaluation company. Click here for a list of approved academic credential evaluation services.
If you earned your Bachelors at Weber State:
- If you are a 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ graduate, please download a copy of your unofficial transcripts from your eWeber portal using the Unofficial Transcript app and upload them to your application.
- If you have completed coursework at any other institution that has not yet been transferred to Weber State, you must request an official transcript from that institution. Please follow their process to have the official transcript sent directly to 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ (see instructions below).
If you earned your Bachelors at a U.S institution:
- Submit official transcripts from all higher education institutions you have attended. This includes associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees from any and all institutions where you have taken a course.
Submission Instructions:
You may submit your official transcript(s) in one of the following ways:
- Preferred Method: Request that your transcripts be sent securely and electronically from the degree-granting institution to msds@weber.edu.
- Alternative Methods: Request your official transcripts online through the to be sent to Weber State. Send a copy of your request to msds@weber.edu so we can follow up with the admissions office.
- By Mail: Transcripts must be sent UNOPENED in their original sealed envelope to the following address:

- Essay
Briefly explain how the MSDS degree would assist you in your short- and long-term career goals. Your essay should be one page, single-spaced.
- GRE & TOEFL or IELTS
TOEFL or IELTS
All international students and any applicant educated outside the U.S. must demonstrate proficiency in English and are required to submit scores for the or the which is not more than two years old. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) = 79 overall, with a minimum of 17 in each category: OR IELTS (International English Language Testing System) 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each category).
Students with a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited (or equivalent) university where the language of instruction was English may be exempt from English-language proficiency testing. Please email msds@weber.edu to confirm.
GRE
GRE scores are required for any applicant educated outside of the US. GRE scores will be used to make admission decisions but no specific minimum score is required. For information about taking the GRE, go to
