Yes! To graduate and receive your diploma you must be eligible and apply on time. You must submit your graduation application to receive your diploma even if you do not plan to attend commencement or convocation. 

Review your CatTracks degree evaluation  with your advisor to make sure your program of study is correctly listed in CatTracks and then check for any missing requirements.

 in your eWeber portal in order to participate and receive your diploma. 

Final grades are not submitted until the week after the graduation ceremonies so while you might not be certain, you should still .

Grad Finale

There’s no need to fill out an order form or send your measurements in advance. By attending Grad Finale you’ll be able to pick up your free cap and gown so you’re ready for graduation. You’ll also have the chance to get your photo taken, get your hands on some free swag and celebrate your accomplishments with your fellow graduates!

Can't attend Grad Finale? You will be able to order your graduation cap, gown and other accessories online and . Your items will still be free but you will have to pay for shipping.  In order to have your items shipped to you, place your order by the deadline.

Graduate-level Regalia

Academic regalia will consist of a black mortarboard style cap and tassel, a black gown with sleeves indicating graduate-level work, and if recieving a master's degree an over-the-head hood with a velvet-like border indicating the degree awarded. 

At the master’s degree level, the gown extended sleeves. Historically, the sleeves could have been used as pockets in cold academic buildings. The hood is a modern version of the hooded robes worn by munks in medieval times who taught in early universities to keep warm in the winter and to collect alms.

Weber State holds one general commencement ceremony celebrating all graduates in the spring. Graduates do not walk the stage or receive their diploma at this event, but celebrate their accomplishments as a group. There are speakers and musical numbers performed after graduates walk in and sit together at the beginning of the ceremony. Please be advised, there will be indoor pyrotechnics, similar to fireworks, at commencement.

EAST convocation ceremonies are held in both the fall and spring. There are usually speakers and then the graduates walk across the stage while their names are read.

Neither ceremony is mandatory, but we encourage students to attend both if possible. Guests are welcome to attend both graduation ceremonies.

Weber State does not hold commencement in the summer. Summer graduates are allowed to attend either the spring or fall graduation ceremonies but should still .

Commencement and convocation ceremonies are live-streamed on this web page. 

• Please arrive 20-30 minutes before the ceremony to check in.
• Come down to the floor of the Dee Events Center. EAST staff will be at a table, with name cards in alphabetical order. Go to the appropriate line.
• Pick up your pre-printed name card*, write your email address on the back. The photographer will email your grad photo to that address.
• Keep your name card and sit in the front row chairs marked for graduate students. Once seated, keep your hood folded over your lap.
• When the Dean directs you to approach the stage, walk to the (north) in front of the graduate candidate seats where you will see the photographer who will take your photo. 
• One at a time, graduate candidates will hand their name cards to the announcer and then walk to the front of the podium to be hooded by faculty.
• Hand the hood to the hooding faculty and they will place the hood over your head so that the hood lays against the front of your neck and drapes over the back of your shoulders. Pause for congratulations and photos.
• Walk away from the podium to the south where you will be handed a diploma cover and will shake hands with other faculty members.
• A photographer will direct you to the position to take a photo and then you can return to your seat walking up the middle aisle.
• When seated, fasten the tie-cord to secure your hood.

 

*If you don’t have a pre-printed card, write your name/email on a blank card, not a big deal.
*If your name is difficult to pronounce, write it phonetically on your name card.

Spring grads should receive their diplomas in the mail in early June. Summer grads should receive their diploma in early October. However, your transcripts will show completed degrees, typically a week after graduation.
