Weber State’s Music Program is housed in the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts. Hosting more than 200 events and 80,000 guests annually, the Browning Center serves as a cultural hub for northern Utah. In addition to its three primary performance venues, the building boasts over a dozen student practice rooms, a sound recording and production studio, and 39 Steinway and Boston pianos.

Campus Venues

Austad Auditorium

Seating an audience of 1,408, the Austad Auditorium is the crown jewel of Weber State’s performance venues. The auditorium features a digital line array sound system, full rep lighting plot, sound shell, and has hosted musicians of all genres, including the Utah Symphony, John Denver, Audra McDonald and Paige O’Hara.

Allred Theater

The Allred Theater seats 272 guests and hosts musical performances of all genres. In addition to a full digital sound system and full rep lighting plot, the theater accommodates an acoustical sound shell, choir risers, and a Marley dance floor.

Eccles Theater

The Eccles Theater is the most intimate of the Browning Center’s performance spaces. Hosting up to 125 guests, the seats and stage can be configured in a variety of ways to work for any performance. The space has full LED lighting and can be furnished with a Marley dance floor.

Practice Rooms

Each of Weber State’s practice rooms is outfitted with a seven-foot Steinway grand piano and is insulated for a private experience. Practice rooms are provided to 91¶ÌÊÓƵ music majors free of charge and can be reserved for any time of day. The practice rooms are well-ventilated and can be locked for added privacy and security.

DPA Technology Lab

91¶ÌÊÓƵ students from all majors can take audio production courses in the DPA technology lab . Featuring 18 Pro Tools workstations equipped with a MIDI keyboard and a host of industry-standard software, the Technology Lab is a place for experimentation and collaboration. Students get hands-on experience with McDSP plug-ins, Finale, Sibelius, Logic Pro X, and many more tools while learning music production and score notation. The technology lab also includes a 6-foot by 8-foot WhisperRoom for live sound recording.

Ray L. Kimber Music & Sound Recording Studio

The Ray L. Kimber Music & Sound Recording Studio is one of only a handful of professional recording studios located on a university campus in the United States. The studio is the perfect place for students to hone their skills in sound production and recording as they create professional work for their portfolios. Equipped with industry-standard equipment and state-of-the-art technology, students will gain the practical knowledge, training, and experience needed to start a successful career in sound production. The studio features a broad array of sound equipment, including a Neve Console, Avid Pro Tools HDX2, an isolated recording studio, a variety of microphones and other tools and software for sound production.

Community Venues

Ogden’s many community venues offer Weber State student musicians a variety of opportunities to engage in the area’s rich culture and art scene.

Union Station

Ogden’s Union Station is at the heart of downtown, hosting farmer's markets, festivals, and a variety of community events. 91¶ÌÊÓƵ students and faculty often headline the popular , a free concert celebrating jazz music. The station also offers many other performance opportunities throughout the year.

Saint Joseph Catholic Church

One of Weber State’s oldest traditions is the annual choir and orchestra holiday concert at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church. In addition to the concert, the venue hosts other ensembles that perform throughout the year.

The Monarch

Housed in a former 1920s industrial parking garage, The Monarch reimagines the possibilities of event space with creative studios, contemporary art events, gourmet eats, and novelty gift shops. Weber State students can often be spotted performing live music and participating in the camaraderie of .
