AIARE Rec Level 1 and 2 Courses: "Decision Making in Avalanche Terrain"

AIARE Lv 1
Pre-requisites: Ability to skin uphill and ski/snowboard downhill through steep, ungroomed terrain under any weather or snowpack conditions (No snowshoes allowed on the course, contact us if you have a group of snowshoers who are interested in avalanche instruction).
You must be comfortable , efficient and confident using your uphill travel equipment and riding in deep powder and variable conditions. Please get out into the field prior to the course. If your ability in the field does not meet these standards, you may be excused from the course without a refund.
If your skills are not quite ready to step into this course, please seek out a weekend Backcountry 101 course through Ogden Avalanche or a single day Intro to Backcountry Touring through the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Outdoor Program.
Dates:
- Jan 10-12, 2025 (night class on 1/10)
- Feb 3-5, 2025 (night class on 2/3)
- Feb 5-7, 2025 (night class on 2/5)
- March 3-5, 2025 - 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Spring Break

Price Includes: AIARE Avalanche Level 1 Course Instruction, Course materials, rental of beacon, probe, shovel as needed**.
**If you will require use of our Avy safety packages, you must place a rental order with our shop to secure these items, free of charge, for your course.
Classroom session will be held at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ. All field sessions will take place on US forest service land utilizing special use permits, or on private land with permission from industry partners.
Fitness Level: Participants will be required to do a fair amount of skiing in the backcountry. Participants should be in good physical condition, and be familiar with their ski touring or splitboard equipment.
Age: 18
Time commitment: Minimum of 24 hours of instruction, at least 60 percent spent in the field.
Transport: Participants are responsible for transporting themselves to classroom and field sessions. None will be more than 1 hour from downtown Ogden.

This is an American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) Recreational Level I or 2 course titled "Decision Making in Avalanche Terrain". The course will be taught over 3 days.
- Participants will need to provide their own touring equipment ie: AT, Telemark, or Splitboard (No snowshoes allowed on the course).
- Participants will also need to bring enough food and water for a full day of touring.
- Participants will be given a full equipment list prior to the course.
- Participants will need to bring an avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe. All of this equipment can be rented from the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Outdoor Program.
AIARE Lv 2

- Must have completed a AAA accredited Level 1 Avalanche Course, and a AAA accredited Avalanche Rescue Course.
