RAMP Technical Training Center & Climbing Wall

CLOSED WEDNESDAYS

During the first two weeks of December, the rental center and technical training center/climbing wall will be closed on Wednesdays. We will resume normal Wednesday hours beginning Dec. 18. Please check our hours online before coming in, thank you!

The Weber State RAMP Technical Training Center (TTC) is in the Outdoor Adventure & Welcome Center. The TTC is an educational facility offering participants the instruction and equipment to make climbing a life-long pursuit. The TTC is a multifaced facility serving the needs of our students and the local community. The TTC offers a recreational climbing wall, bouldering, climbing-based clinics, work-at-height and rescue certifications, and facility rentals for third-party training.

All participants must complete a boulder orientation before initial admission and before participating in open bouldering. They must also complete a belay test before participating in open climbing hours. Learn-to-belay classes are offered every other hour during roped climbing hours. Your Wildcard is required for admission.

An adult must accompany any participants under 16 at all times, and minors under 18 must have a parent or guardian read and sign the Informed Consent for Minors form.

We accommodate all physical abilities and welcome the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. Please email outdoorprogram@weber.edu in advance if you have specific accommodations we can help prepare for.

Please fill out your waiver before arriving to minimize crowding in the facility. Waivers have been updated for 2021. If you haven't signed one yet this year, please fill out the new form before arriving.

Special Groups

Groups of 6 or more looking to climb or anyone hoping for individualized instruction must make advanced reservations. Participants must be 12 or older to belay. The minimum for groups is 6, and the maximum is 15. For reservations or more info, call 801-626-7904 or email outdoorprogram@weber.edu two weeks before your desired dates. A minimum of two weeks' notice is required to book a group.

Rules and Policies

Policies for Participation
- All participants must complete an assumption of risk form prior to participation in any activity at the TTC. Participants who are minors must have a parent or legal guardian complete the assumption of risk form.
- Organized groups must ensure that all members have completed an assumption of risk form, including forms completed by parents/legal guardians on behalf of minors. Groups must remain at the TTC and are not permitted to go to other areas of the facility.
- Participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Participants under 14 years of age are not permitted to belay.
- Participants may include 91��Ƶ students, faculty, or staff as well as community members. All other participants must be part of an organized group with approval to use the TTC.
- Participants may only use the TTC during scheduled academic classes, regular drop-in recreation hours, or as part of a scheduled, organized group. A staff member must be present at all times for any participants to use the TTC.
User Rules
- All participants will not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other substances that may affect their sobriety or judgment while participating in activities at the TTC.
- Climbers will only use a figure-8 follow-through knot to tie into climbing ropes.
- An appropriate, assisted-braking belay device is required for all belaying.
- Belay devices must be attached to the belayer’s harness with a locking carabiner.
- Loose chalk is not permitted. Participants may use chalk balls.
- Participants may check out a helmet for free from TTC staff should they wish to use them.
- Climbers should use standard climbing commands, minimally “On belay?”, “Belay on”, “Climbing?” and “Climb on.”
- Climbers may use their own equipment with approval from TTC staff.
- All equipment should be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Lead climbing is only permitted during roped climbing hours. Participants must pass TTC Lead Test before lead climbing.
- Spotters are recommended, but not required, for all bouldering.
- Boulderers may use the roped climbing walls ensuring their shoulders do not go above the first row of quickdraws on the wall. Boulderers should yield to roped climbers on the roped climbing walls and should not boulder below roped climbers.
- Boulderers should hang and drop or hang and downclimb from the bouldering wall. Topping out is not permitted.
- Personal music devices are not permitted as they pose a communication hazard.
- Food and drink (except water in a bottle) are prohibited at the TTC.
- Participants should report accidents, damage, equipment issues, or unsafe behavior to TTC staff immediately.
- Participants will follow the instruction and directions of TTC staff at all times
- All participants not part of a scheduled, organized group must complete a TTC orientation and belay clinic and test to participate in activities at the TTC.
- The TTC reserves the right to suspend, either temporarily or permanently, the use of the TTC by any participant for failure to comply with any TTC policy or for behavior deemed inappropriate or unsafe.

Facility Description

The Weber State Technical Training Center is in the Outdoor Adventure & Welcome Center. The climbing was designed and constructed by Eldorado in 2020. The bouldering walls are 15 ft. high, and the roped wall is 55 ft. high.
