Scholarships

The Department of Political Science & Philosophy offers scholarships to Political Science & Philosophy majors and minors.

To apply, follow the steps to apply for financial aid and scholarships on the Financial Aid & Scholarships website.

Once you complete the general scholarship application, your information will be used for scholarships you fit the criteria to receive. You must be declared as a political science or philosophy major to qualify for departmental scholarships.

Activity Scholarships

Amnesty International Activity Waiver

Criteria
  • Citizen/affidavit
  • Attendance level: full-time (12-18 credit hours/semester)
  • Utah resident
  • Weber State GPA between 2.5 and 4.0

Ethics Bowl Activity Waiver

Criteria
  • Citizen/affidavit
  • Attendance level: full-time (12-18 credit hours/semester)
  • Utah resident
  • Weber State GPA between 2.5 and 4.0

Moot Court/Mock Trial Activity Waiver

Criteria
  • Participation on the Moot Court or Mock Trial team
  • Citizen/affidavit
  • Attendance level: full-time (12-18 credit hours/semester)
  • Utah resident
  • Weber State GPA between 2.5 and 4.0

Model United Nations Activity Waiver

Criteria
  • Participation on the Model United Nations Team
  • Citizen/affidavit
  • Attendance level: full-time (12-18 credit hours/semester)
  • Utah resident
  • Minimum Weber State GPA: 2.5
  • Weber State GPA for nomination between 2.5 and 4.0

 

 

Tuition Scholarships 

Robert Barker Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship recipient must be a junior or senior with a declared major in any field pursuing pre-law. Preference will be given to seniors who have already received the scholarship as juniors. Applicants must submit a one-page letter of inquiry on why they are pursuing a law degree.

Criteria
  • Citizen/affidavit
  • Major: political science
  • Minimum Weber State GPA: 2.5
  • Academic year between 3 and 4

Brace Scholarship

The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in political science and demonstrate financial need.

Criteria
  • Citizen/affidavit
  • Attendance level: preference given to those going less than half time
  • Unmet financial need
  • One of the following majors:
    • Political science teaching
    • Political science
  • Minimum Weber State GPA: 2.5

Ted and Judith Parke Scholarship

The scholarship recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a declared major in political science and a 3.0 GPA and must be a full-time student at the time of applying for this scholarship. Preference will be given to applicants who graduated from a high school in the Weber County School District, located in Weber County, Utah, first, and also to juniors and seniors.

  • Attendance level: full-time (12-18 credit hours/semester)
  • One of the following majors:
    • Political science teaching
    • Political science
  • Weber State GPA between 3.0 and 4.0
  • Weber State GPA for nomination between 3.0 and 4.0
  • Academic year between 2 and 5

Richard Richards Scholarship

The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a declared major or minor in political science or philosophy and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. The recipient must be able to demonstrate involvement in community service and/or campus student government. Applicants should submit a résumé and one-page letter of interest to the Department of Political Science & Philosophy.
