Frequently Asked Questions
- Why should I do a program through Weber State?
- Courses taken at a partner institution will transfer back to Weber as specific courses or elective credit. It is not guaranteed this will happen if you go through a non-partner institution.
- Pay Weber State's IN-STATE tuition (yes, you pay this too, international and out-of-state students!) for full semester exchange programs.
- Tuition is built in to the price of short-term faculty-led programs. The prices on our site are what you pay-- no tuition on top!
- Financial aid and scholarship opportunities are available.
- Third party provider service fees are thousands of dollars, ours is $300 OR LESS.
- We handle all enrollment and logistical aspects of your program
- Go on trips with your favorite professors while earning credit towards your degree!
- Over 200 institutions around the world to go to!
- What happens if my trip cancels?
If your 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Study Abroad Program is canceled because of low enrollment or other unforeseen circumstances, you will be notified as soon as the trip is canceled, and refunded any money you have paid for the trip.
- Where can I get a passport?
The Study Abroad office will be able to assist in passport applications starting August 12th, 2024. Please visit our Passport office tab at the top of this page for more information
- Do I still have to pay tuition?
All 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Short-term Faculty-led Study Abroad Programs have all tuition and fees included in the cost of your program. The only exception are exchanges in which you will pay 91¶ÌÊÓƵ's tuition rate.
- What happens if I can’t go?
If you end up withdrawing from a Study Abroad Program, your deposit is non-refundable. However, the Study Abroad Administrator will work with you concerning refunds above and beyond the deposit. Please see the cancellation policy found in the application, and please contact us immediately.
- How do I sign up?
To sign up for a Study Abroad Program, please fill out our application, wait 24 hours for us to process it, and then call CE Enrollment at 801-626-6600 to register for the trip. They will register you for the credits you want, and subsequently put the charge on your account so you can pay for your deposit. If you are doing an exchange, please work with our Global Connections Coordinator to be registered for your placeholder course.
- How do I pay for my trip?
Payments can now be made online! Visit this website for instructions on how to pay your deposit online and future payments. Charges should show on your account within 24 hours after registration. As always, you can pay with a credit card as well. To keep our trip costs low, we encourage the use of ACH Bank Transfers, or payments by cash or check whenever possible.
- When I registered for a short-term Study Abroad, a course called CETR 2999 or EXCH 0003 showed up on my transcript. What is this?
CETR 2999 is a non-credit course that allows us to enroll you and to hold your place in a Study Abroad program. It is sometimes noted as the "Roster" course. It will show up on your billing statement and on your transcript as a non-credit course. Please do not drop it from your portal! EXCH 0003 is a placeholder course for exchange students. This will bill you Weber State's in-state tuition rate for 12 credit hours and will be replaced with the courses you took abroad.
- What documents to I need to travel?
Everyone who travels abroad must have a current passport. Please make sure you have yours well before your trip leaves, and make sure it doesn’t expire for at least six months after your program ends. You may need a Travel Visa (not a Visa credit card) to travel to or through some countries, and it is your responsibility to obtain these visas. The requirements for Visas vary from country to country and depend upon your citizenship. Visit the U.S. State Department website (or contact your country of citizenship’s embassy) to determine whether or not you require a visa.
Weber State legally cannot advise on student/travel visas.
If you are traveling on one of our domestic Travel Study Programs, you must bring a government-issued photo ID with you, especially while traveling by air.
- Is insurance included in my Study Abroad Program?
Supplemental Health Insurance Abroad is included in the cost of every Study Abroad trip. This covers hospital visits, emergency extraction, and repatriation of remains. Our new insurance also covers quarantine for $200 per day for 10 days if needed (reimbursement). Travel insurance can be added to any participant's account, but any more than $500 of coverage will be billed to the participant's account.
- Where do I find airfare for my trip?
Flights are included in some programs. If you are required to purchase a flight for your program, Google Flights is a great resource. However, you should look for fares that are refundable in case the need to cancel should arise. Many websites and travel agencies offer discounted restricted fares to college students. Do not purchase airfare until the program director advises you to do so.
- International Students
If you are an international student who is applying to participate in a study abroad program, please inquire if you need a visa to the country where the study abroad program takes place.
Also, please contact the International Student and Scholar Center to make sure:
- There is a current DSO signature on your I-20.
- Your visa and passport are valid for re-entry into the U.S. when you return.
- Cancellation Policy
If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application. Study Abroad will work with you to get the most money back as possible. Contact us immediately if you need to drop your program.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Study Abroad Office at 801-626-8740 (short-term programs) or 801-626-8711 (exchange programs).
