Costa Rica

Program Details

This study abroad program to the incredible country of Costa Rica combines intensive Spanish language study with unforgettable adventures to world-renowned touristic and ecological destinations. Participants will be totally immersed in a Spanish speaking culture, living with Costa Rican host families, and taking Spanish courses from a well established language institute: the ILISA Spanish School. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the important role ecotourism plays in the country by actively participating in various field experiences to culturally and ecologically rich destinations, such as magnificent national parks, whitewater rivers, beaches, waterfalls, museums, art galleries, open street markets, nature centers and parks. Costa Rica is an ideal destination not only because of its natural beauty and rich culture, but also because it is a safe and relatively affordable country.

Selection Criteria:

Participants must:

  • Have taken, and have passed with a C or better, SPAN 1010 (First Semester of Spanish) or any SPAN course above 1010
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be a high school graduate or above.
  • Read, speak, and understand English.

Cost

$3,300.00 (Airfare NOT Included)

Suggested Payment Schedule:

  • Deposit: $500
  • Jan. 8, 2018: $700
  • Feb. 5, 2018: $700
  • March 5, 2018: $700
  • April 2, 2018: $700
  • April 27, 2018: $200

Must be paid in full by May 12, 2018

Deposit: $500 dollars will need to be paid when you hand in your application.

All payments must be made through the Hurst Center, NOT at the main cashier's office. Payment can be made in person, or over the phone at (801) 626-6600. The Hurst Center is located on the south side of campus next to the Alumni Center.

Includes: room and board, domestic transportation, and some meals.

Not included: airfare, passport, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled travel, and all meals.

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to three (9) semester credits through 91¶ÌÊÓƵ by choosing one bundle of SPAN 1020 and SPAN 1851; or SPAN 2010 and SPAN HU2851; or SPAN 2020 and SPAN HU2851; or SPAN 3000 and SPAN 3850 AND OCRE 3810

Trip Cancellations

If the trip is canceled, all participants will be refunded. Any refunds for withdrawals from the program will be determined by the Study Abroad Director according to the recoverability of incurred costs and fees and according to the Continuing Education Policy. Once the group leaves all costs are non-refundable in their entirety. Dates & process may change. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of any such changes by staying in contact with the program director.
