Program Details

This course provides international clinical service opportunities to improve the health of communities served, while providing students with the opportunity to develop more cultural competence.

Selection Criteria:

  • Be a nursing student (Prefer licensure, but not required)
  • Be a Respiratory Therapy student (Prefer AAS curriculum prior to travel, but not required)
  • Be a DCHP student (license preferred, but not required)
  • Be a health professional in the community with a current license
  • Be significant other or family member of a participant
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be an MBA student or have faculty approval
  • Be a high school graduate or above.
  • Read, speak, and understand English.
  • Provide documentation of sufficiently good enough health to travel and participate in a two-week study program.

$2,999.00 (SOME Airfare Included)

Suggested Payment Schedule:

  • Deposit: $500
  • Jan. 5, 2018: $600
  • Feb. 2, 2018: $600
  • March 2, 2018: $600
  • April 6, 2018: $600
  • May 4, 2018: $99

Must be paid in full by May 16, 2018

Deposit: $500 dollars will need to be paid when you hand in your application.

All payments must be made through the Hurst Center, NOT at the main cashier's office. Payment can be made in person, or over the phone at (801) 626-6600. The Hurst Center is located on the south side of campus next to the Alumni Center.

Includes: room and board, domestic transportation, and some meals.

Not included: airfare, passport, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled travel, and all meals.

May 21-26: Mae Sot
May 27-30: Trek near Mae Sot
May 31-June 3: Siem Reap
June 4-9: Cambodia
June 10: Return
June 18: Debriefing meeting

Bangkok, Thailand - floating markets & Buddha’s
Mae Sot, Thailand - Mae Tao clinic working with Burmese refugees in inpatient, outpatient & homecare settings
Near Mae Sot - Trek in Umphang Jungle, visit Karen Hill tribe - maybe see wildlife
Siem Reap - Angkor Wat ancient temple ruins
Phnom Penh - train rural health clinic staff on neonatal resuscitation, including a small resuscitation device

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to four (4) semester credits though Weber State Univeristy in NRSG 4850 OR REST 4850.

Trip Cancellations

If the trip is canceled, all participants will be refunded. Any refunds for withdrawals from the program will be determined by the Study Abroad Director according to the recoverability of incurred costs and fees and according to the Continuing Education Policy. Once the group leaves all costs are non-refundable in their entirety. Dates & process may change. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of any such changes by staying in contact with the program director.
