Program Details

This study abroad will use assignments and visits to important industry and cultural sites in Italy to build understanding and competence in international business and accounting practices across cultures. It will increase the understanding of foreign business transactions and provide useful skills.

Selection Criteria:

  • Admission to the MAcc or MTax program. On a limited basis, students in other 91¶ÌÊÓƵ graduate programs and advanced undergraduate Accounting students in the Goddard School will be allowed to enroll in the course.

Destination:

  • Italy (Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, Milan, Capri)

Program Dates:

April 26, 2019 – May 5, 2019

Cost

Cost: $2,700 (Airfare not included)

Priority registration for current MAcc/MTax students is December 1, 2018 - $500 deposit required

Deposit: $500

Payment Schedule:

Deposit: $500 by December 15, 2018 for all other participants
Payment #2: $750 by January 31, 2019.
Payment #3: $750 by February 28, 2019.
Remainder of trip fees due by March 31, 2019.
Personal air travel itinerary due by February 28, 2019.

Pay deposit and all payments to the Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning in person or pay over the phone with a credit card at (801) 626-6600. Please, do not pay on campus, all payments need to be made at the Hurst Center.

Itinerary

Mar 15th: Pre-departure meeting at the Davis Campus (MBA Conference Room) 3 pm
Apr 26th: Depart from SLC
Apr 27th: Arrive in Milan
Apr 28th: Cultural visits (Duomo tour, etc)
Apr 29th: Business visits (American Chamber of Comm, EY, Accenture)
Apr 30th: Early train to Rome (arrive by noon). Business visit (Boeing)
May 1st: Holiday in Italy. Visit Coliseum, Forum, Vatican
May 2nd: Business visit (Hedra). Cultural visits in Rome
May 3rd: Early bus trip to Pompeii. Evening bus to Sorrento
May 4th: Boat trip to Capri, visit Blue Grotto. Back to Sorrento
May 5th: Early bus to Rome. Depart to SLC
June TBD: Post-program dinner and reflection

Program Directors

Matthew Mouritsen, Professor of Accounting & MBA Program Director. Teaching experience, research, and PhD are based in information technology and accounting. Responsible for study abroad logistics, course proposal, planning learning activities, and business, cultural, and geographical visits.

Eric Smith, Associate Professor of Accounting & MTax faculty member. He will be in charge of teaching experience, research, and PhD are based in taxation. Responsible for syllabus development, Canvas, social media site updates, and a majority of the assessment of students following the trip.

Trip Cancellations

If the trip is canceled, all participants will be refunded. Any refunds for withdrawals from the program will be determined by the Study Abroad Director according to the recoverability of incurred costs and fees and according to the Continuing Education Policy. Once the group leaves all costs are non-refundable in their entirety. Dates & process may change. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of any such changes by staying in contact with the program director.
