Questions and Answers

• Who is considered an Undocumented Student?

  A student who is not a US citizen or legal permanent resident and who does not currently possess a green card, visa, or other legal documentation is considered an undocumented student. This even includes those born outside of this country who have lived in this country for a significant portion of their lives. Undocumented students do not have a social security number.

• Can I apply for scholarships if I am undocumented?

  Yes. Scholarships awarded by private donors and entities are typically open to Undocumented students. If information about your Social Security Number (SSN) or a Parent’s Income Tax information is requested, contact the scholarship committee to see the best way to present this information.

• Who can assist me in applying for college?

  Your high school counselors and college advisors are equipped with valuable information and resources to help you apply for college and private scholarships.

• Can I apply for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if I am undocumented or have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

  No. Undocumented and/or DACA students are NOT currently eligible for any Federal Financial Aid Programs. Undocumented and DACA students CANNOT legally receive any federally funded grants.

• What if I did not attend or graduate from a school in Utah, can I attend Weber State?

  Yes. You can still be admitted to Weber State, however you will be charged out-of-state tuition rates for Fall and Spring Semester and you will not be able to receive in-state-tuition until you have legalized your status in the United States and meet Utah residency requirements. However, during Summer Semester, all 91¶ÌÊÓƵ students pay in-state tuition.

• What if I have DACA and have received a SSN, can I use my DACA SSN for the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ admission Application?

  No. The DACA SSN is mainly for work purposes. When filling out the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ admission application, Undocumented and DACA students select other when asked about citizenship. This option does not require a Social Security Number.

• What happens after I fill out my application and Weber State receives my transcripts?

  Wait two business days, and then call the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Office 801-626-6050. Ask for your W# and International PIN. The W# and International PIN are needed to set up your username and password for the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ portal. The portal is where you will sign up for classes. Make sure tocomplete and sign the Non-Resident Tuition Exemption Affidavit and include your W#. Please mail, email, or come in and turn in the Non-Resident Tuition Exemption Affidavit. (*Note: Final high school transcript, along with affidavit, must be submitted in order to receive in-state tuition)

• If my parents are undocumented, but I am a U.S. citizen, am I eligible for financial aid?

  Yes, if you are a U.S. Citizen, you are eligible to receive financial aid. If one or both of your parents are undocumented, you enter zeros (000-00-0000) for their SSN on the FAFSA application. Once the application is complete, you must print it out, have your parent(s) sign it and then it MUST be mailed to Federal Student Aid Processing at the address printed on the signature page or turned into the financial aid office at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ.

• What if my parents lost their tax forms?

  If your parents lost their tax forms, they can request an IRS Tax Return Transcript. They can order a copy of transcript tax records online. Once in the website, go to tools, click on “Get Transcript of Your Tax Records." Click on “Get your Transcript Online," create an account, follow the instructions and then you can print it. Or you can have it mailed to you, click on “Get Transcript by Mail."
