Weber State students serving internships can register for up to 12 academic credits. The Walker Institute encourages you to take your credits in Political Science but will work with other departments as necessary to meet student graduation requirements. The coursework is as follows:
- POLS 4860 Washington D.C. Internships (1-6 credits)
These courses include students:
- Keeping a weekly journal record of their internship work and experiences;
- Completing a 3 - 5 page reflective essay demonstrating internship learning outcomes have been met;
- Participating in current political events discussions with other interns.
- POLS 4865 State & Local Internships (1-6 credits)
These courses include students:
- Keeping a weekly journal record of their internship work and experiences;
- Completing a 3 - 5 page reflective essay demonstrating internship learning outcomes have been met;
- Participating in current political events discussions with other interns;
- Taking a Utah State Legislature preparation course if they are placed in that body.
- POLS 4870 Internship in Perspective (3 credits)
This course includes students:
- Conducting a literature review of scholarly sources that connect to the individual student's internship experience. For example, if a student is interning with Congress, they would conduct a review of scholarly literature on Congress.
- Creating an annotated bibliography of the sources.
- POLS 4880 Internship Research (3 credits)
This course includes students:
- Conducting an independent research project that connects to the individual student's internship experience;
- Possibly finishing a capstone;
- Possibly participating in an undergraduate research conference.
