Walker Institute Scholarships
- America First Credit Union Capitol Hill Intern Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a full- or part-time student in good academic standing. Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged. Recipients will be selected through the Walker Institute for an internship in Washington, D.C. The internship must be either on Capitol Hill within an office, committee or function of the United States Congress or within the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to leadership, public service and/or academic achievement.
The award pays internship expenses including tuition, fees, travel, housing or any other needs deemed worthy by the Walker Institute.
- Bank of Utah Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be at least a sophomore with an overall 2.5 GPA or greater, have demonstrated financial need or be economically disadvantaged and be a U.S. citizen and resident of Davis or Weber County. Recipient must also be involved in a Walker Institute-supported internship or service experience. May be attending full or part time. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors.
Uses: tuition, fees and books.
- Dr. Kay Thompson Rawson Swan Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior involved in an internship or service experience supported by the Walker Institute who has a desire to serve in an internship position for an elected official. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors, to registered members of the Democratic Party and to students who have been candidates for public service in student government or the community. Recipient may be attending full or part-time. A resume and one-page letter of interest is required
Internship and fellowship expenses including travel, housing and fees or any other necessary needs deemed worthy by the Walker Institute.
- Major Brent and Jennie Taylor Scholarship
The scholarship recipient(s) must meet one (1) of the following three (3) criteria:
1. Must have participated in the semi-annual Speech Showcase and be selected as the top speaker(s).
2. Must have participated in Weber Speaks and delivered speeches to government and civic organizations and be selected as the top speaker(s).
3. Must have participated in Walker Institute of Politics Speech and Public Service competitions and be selected as the top speaker(s).
4. In addition to meeting one of the criteria above, preferences will be given to:
- Students majoring in political science or communication.
- Students with a strong interest in leadership in politics and international relations.Uses: tuition, fees or other educational expenses
- Michael & Leslie Grow Washington, D.C. Internship Scholarship
The recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a 2.5 overall GPA or better and be involved in an internship or service experience supported by the Walker Institute. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors and to students with a 3.0 overall GPA or better. Applicants may be attending full or part-time. Students may apply by submitting a resume and a one-page letter of interest.
To be used for internship and fellowship expenses related to the Michael & Leslie Grow Washington, D.C. Internship including travel, housing and fees or any other necessary needs deemed worthy by the Walker Institute.
- Olene S. Walker Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a 2.5 overall GPA or better and involved in a Walker Institute-supported internship or service experience. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors and to students with a 3.0 overall GPA or better. May be enrolled full or part-time.
This scholarship provides a cash award to assist with internship costs, travel, housing, books or other educational expenses deemed worthy by the Walker Institute.
- Oliver F. Murray Scholarship
The scholarship recipient must 1) have a declared major within the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, 2) have and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, 3) have participated in Walker Institute of Politics Speech & Public Service programming and 4) be enrolled full or part-time. Preferences will be given to students majoring in political science or communication and students with a strong interest in leadership and civic engagement. Previous recipients may reapply.
