Scholarships

The Communication Department offers scholarships specifically and tuition waivers designated for communication majors, as well as majors involved in one of the department's co-curricular activities. 

To be eligible for any scholarship, students must complete and the . 

In the questionnaire section of the Scholarship Universe application, note that you want to be considered for Weber State scholarships. The more questionnaire questions you answer, the more scholarships you might be identified for.

Department-specific scholarships that might be available include:

COMM Alumni & Friends Scholarship

This scholarship is available to Communication majors or minors who have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Students must be enrolled full or part time.

Jonathan Morrell Scholarship

This scholarship is available to Communication majors or minors who have demonstrated financial need and are registered full time. Students must demonstrate financial need through completion of FAFSA and have a 3.0 minimum GPA.

Hess Editorial Scholarship

Non-communication majors who work for The Signpost can receive this scholarship. They must have a 3.0 GPA and skill or interest in editorial writing. Students may be full time or part time.

Jack & Betty Lampros Journalism

Students who are Communication majors and in the multimedia journalism track may get this scholarship. They may be full time or part time.

Helen Cortez Stafford Scholarship

This scholarship is for students majoring in journalism or other Communication emphases focused on writing. Students may be part time or full time.

Patrick R. Parkinson Scholarship

This scholarship is for a Communication major with one of the following declared emphasis areas: multimedia journalism, public relations & strategic communication or civic advocacy. Preference is given to students in multimedia journalism. 

Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, and financial need is preferred but does not have to be demonstrated through FAFSA. Students will be nominated by faculty who advise Multimedia Journalism, Public Relations & Strategic Communication and Civic Advocacy. The selection will be made by the Scholarship Committee.
