Several student organizations and events are housed within the Department of Communication, offering 91¶ÌÊÓƵ students real-world experience in a variety of disciplines.
- KWCR Wildcat Radio
KWCR Wildcat Radio is the student-run radio station, broadcasting from the Shepherd Union Building. The student staff runs the day-to-day operation of this radio station with about 40 volunteer announcers who come from all areas of the university.
You’ll get hands-on experience in sales, promotion, public speaking, business management, research, marketing, social media, content generation and more.
Students who contribute to KWCR Wildcat Radio may receive a partial or full tuition waiver. Students gain professional experience and have the option of receiving college credit by taking a related class, COMM 3891.

Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the National Communication Association's honor society for undergraduates majoring in Communication.
Joining LPH gives students national recognition for their academic accomplishments and a way to document that success for employers and graduate schools.

Ogden Peak Communications is a student-run public relations and advertising group housed in Elizabeth Hall, providing students with hands-on experience in a real-world setting.
Ogden Peak’s services include strategic public relations planning, stakeholder analysis and media relations.
You can earn academic credit in COMM 3892, get leadership experience, build your portfolio and compete in competitions. A limited number of tuition waivers are also available.

Elizabeth Hall, Room 342 - Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
The Public Relations Student Society of America is the preeminent organization for students interested in public relations and professional communication, with more than 10,000 students and advisors organized into 300-plus chapters in the United States. PRSSA helps students enhance their education, broaden their professional contacts and launch their careers in public relations.
The 91¶ÌÊÓƵ PRSSA chapter offers professional development workshops, competitions, networking, chapter and national leadership opportunities, and tuition waiver rewards.
Annual membership fees are $55. As a member of you can access the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) job center to find job openings all over the world. All majors are welcome.

The Signpost is 91¶ÌÊÓƵ's student-run news organization, publishing the news and events on campus and around Ogden twice per week.
The Signpost is a training ground for students in various disciplines including writing, editing, photography, graphic arts, videography, business and social media.
It is both a class (COMM 2890 or COMM 3890) and a student activity. Participation may qualify students for tuition waivers or other scholarships.
The students' First Amendment rights are protected both by and .
Student journalists, photographers, videographers, graphic artists and those in other roles follow the ethics of the and our own .

The National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists are national organizations that support students of color, but extend membership to all journalists and student journalists.
Memberships are available to students involved in related co-curricular activities sponsored by the Communication Department, and opportunities may be available to attend national conventions. Both organizations have scholarships for student members.

Weber State’s chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists promotes involvement in all disciplines of journalism. 91¶ÌÊÓƵ’s chapter has been named as the Outstanding Chapter in Region 9 numerous times.
SPJ is the largest organization for journalists in the world. SPJ is dedicated to encouraging a climate in which journalism can be practiced more freely and fully, stimulating high standards and ethical behavior in the practice of journalism, and perpetuating a free press.
Membership is $37.50 per year. Benefits include networking opportunities, professional development, free legal advice regarding libel and First Amendment freedoms, regional and national conventions and more.

The Social Media and Data Analytics Lab is a student-led consulting group that offers students practical experience in real-world social media roles such as social media manager, social media strategist, or social media analyst.
Services provided by The Lab include social media research, analytics, strategic planning, and content creation and distribution.

Weber State Debate, established in 1922, is the oldest and most competitive team at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ. We are a co-curricular program open to all students regardless of major and we specialize in academic policy debate.
Our students learn advanced research, argumentative and rhetorical skills, and are well-prepared to attend graduate or professional school after a minimum of a two-year commitment to the team. We regularly travel to regional and national tournaments, as well as host tournaments on campus.
Student competitors are required to be full-time students in good academic standing, to abide by our honor code requirements, to attend weekly meetings and practice sessions, complete projects in a timely manner, travel to tournaments, and engage in community service hosting tournaments and professional conferences.
Participation may qualify students for tuition waivers or other scholarships.

We are a competitive speech team that participates in a variety of categories, including Prose Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, After-Dinner Speaking and more. We mainly compete against teams based in the Pacific Northwest, but participate in all levels of competition as well.
Participating on a speech team can help develop internal reasoning, external discussion and persuasion skills. Almost any career or educational path will benefit from participating on a speech team.
