Scholarships
The 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Department of English offers a number of scholarships and awards.
To apply: Go to Financial Aid & Scholarships and follow the steps listed. Continuing 91¶ÌÊÓƵ students must complete the online scholarship application each year.
For department scholarships, use by Feb. 22 of the academic year. All awards are decided by mid-April for the following academic year. Except where otherwise noted, all scholarships will be awarded through the Department of English by a screening of applications and nominations.
You do not need to apply for a specific scholarship or scholarships. When you complete the scholarship form, you will automatically be considered for any college and departmental scholarships for which you are eligible.
Gordon T. Allred Scholarship in English
Requirements: The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be an undergraduate student in Department of English.
LaVon Carroll Scholarship Endowment
Requirements: The applicant must be a major or minor in the field of humanities.
C. M. Crittenden Scholarship in English
Requirements: The scholarship recipient must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student with a declared major in English and a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Requirements: The scholarship recipient must be an undergraduate enrolled in the Developmental English Program. Please complete this as a part of your DE scholarship application process.
Elmer H. Ericson Memorial Scholarship
Requirements: The scholarship recipient may be enrolled either full or part-time, must be a declared major or minor in the Department of English and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
English Department Scholarship
Requirements: The scholarship recipient must be a currently enrolled student, be a declared major or minor in English and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
English Alumni & Friends Scholarship Fund
Requirements: The recipient must be a currently enrolled major or minor in the Department of English with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Mary J. Howard / Peter Aaron Olsen Scholarship
Requirements: The scholarship recipient must be a declared undergraduate major in English, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and be a full or part-time student. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need or other challenges, students who are engaged in co-curricular activities, community involvement or other services that enrich their life, the university or the community. A brief essay, interview or letter of nomination is required.
Linguistics Scholarship Fund
Requirements: The scholarship recipient must be a declared undergraduate minor in linguistics and have taken at least two courses in the linguistics minor prior to receiving the award. The student may be enrolled full or part-time. Preference will be given to students who have not already received the scholarship in a previous year.
John E. and Nancy S. Lowe English Scholarship
Requirements: The scholarship recipient must be a full-time freshman or sophomore undergraduate student with strong English or English writing skills and have scholastic achievement, financial need and promise in their field.
Lee McKenzie English Scholarship
Requirements: The scholarship recipient should be a promising student poet.
Floyd J. Woodfield Family Award in English
Requirements: This cash award is given to the graduating English major with the highest cumulative grade point average.
