Rehabilitation Sciences

 

Below is a list of additional certifications that RHS and MSAT students can obtain while enrolled at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ or upon graduation.

Certifications are a great way for students to highlight their knowledge, skills, and success in their professional growth and resume development.

 


EMT-Basic Certification


Offered through 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Department of Emergency Healthcare, this certificate prepares students for certification/licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), specializing in emergency medical services.

Requirements
Complete both PAR 1000 and PAR 1001
(taken in the same semester, each course is 4 credits, 8 credit hours total)

Typically offered every fall, spring, and summer as an evening course

Limited License in Radiological Sciences 


Offered through the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ School of Radiologic Sciences, this limited license prepares students for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Limited Practical Technologist certification which allows you to become licensed and work in outpatient facilities and clinics in Utah.

Requirements
Complete all four courses listed below in the same semester:

  • RADT 1021 (1 credit)
  • RADT 1023 (2 credits)
  • RADT 1024 (3 credits)
  • RADT 1025 (2 credits)

Offered
Typically offered every fall, spring, and summer semester. Fall/Spring Mondays from 2-6 pm; Summer MW 2-6 pm. These courses are limited enrollment; first-come, first-serve.

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist


Offered through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists® (CSCS®) are professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. The CSCS certification prepares you to work as a strength coach at a high school, university, and other sports settings.

Eligibility and Requirements
Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or be enrolled as a college senior and have a current CPR/AED certification. RHS students should take PEP 3280 to prepare for the exam.

Candidates must pass an exam that will test their knowledge, skills and abilities in two areas of professional practice: Scientific Foundations and  Practical/Applied.

Beginning 2030— to be eligible for the CSCS examination, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a program accredited by an NSCA-approved accrediting agency. Degree requirements will focus on strength and conditioning. The current degree requirements for the CSCS exam will remain until Dec. 31, 2029.


Lifeguard Certification


Offered through 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Campus Recreation, this certificate prepares students for certification as a Lifeguard through the American Red Cross.

Eligibility and Requirements
Must pass a pre-course evaluation with the following elements:

  • Able to swim 300 yards non-stop (front crawl or breaststroke) using rhythmic breathing
  • Timed Event: Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10lb brick from 7-10 feet deep, swim for 20 yards
  • within 1 minute 40 seconds
  • Tread water using only the legs for 2 minutes
  • Attendance is required at all sessions in order to pass the course

Phlebotomy


Take the MLS 1113 course: Principles and applications to laboratory testing, including safe practices for the laboratory practitioner, specimen quality assurance, phlebotomy, urinalysis, basic concepts in clinical immunology, clinical chemistry, and clinical microbiology. Laboratory session addresses the principles and applications involved in medical laboratory assisting to include safety, microscopy, specimen processing, quality assurance, phlebotomy, and urinalysis; with a focus on Point of Care testing (POCT) in clinical immunology, clinical chemistry, and clinical microbiology.

Eligibility and Requirements
Take a 4-credit hour class, three lectures, and one lab hour.

No prerequisites are required.

Cardiology Technician Proficiency Certificate 


Offered through the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ School of Radiologic Sciences as an open-enrollment certificate. This certificate provides a fundamental pathway for any students interested in professional imaging within Cardiology.

Requirements

Certificate of Proficiency in Therapeutic Dance


The Certificate of Proficiency in Therapeutic Dance prepares students for employment as dance movement practitioners in adolescent residential centers, elderly care facilities, detention centers, and day programs for adults with disabilities (in long-term care or rehabilitation care facilities).  The certificate also prepares students working towards a bachelor's degree to have desirable prerequisite coursework for a Dance Movement Therapy (M. A.) application.

Eligibility and Requirements
Grade Requirements: A minimum grade of "C" in all required courses with a minimum GPA of 2.0
Credit Hour Requirements: A minimum of 27 credits hours required.

Institutional Certificate of Proficiency in Spanish 


The Certificate of Proficiency in Spanish will allow students and professionals to validate intermediate competency in oral and written Spanish, affording them an advantage in employment, broadening business opportunities and enriching their cultural and social understanding of our community and of the francophone world. This Certificate provides concrete evidence of speaking and writing skills for employers and associates.

Requirements
Grade Requirements: A grade of "C" or better in all required courses
Credit Hour Requirement: A total of 18 Credit hours is required.
