Automotive Technical Education Program (ATEP)
Prepares you for a career as an automotive service technician or to go on to one of 91¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Automotive Technology bachelor’s programs.
If you want to learn the latest trends in independent shop service technology and walk away as a certified expert in automotive service, this program is for you.

Students may attend one of the following programs prior to applying to the program at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ.
Partnering Technical Colleges
Step 2:
Associate of Applied Science
This 2-year degree program includes formal classroom training and supervised work experience as a paid service technician in an independent shop, dealership or ACDelco TSS service center.
Step 3:
Bachelor of Science
With a Bachelor's degree, you'll be able to position yourself for a leadership role withing the automotive industry.
You’ll be qualified to work for some of the leading manufacturers around the country, or you can find a great career close to home.

What you will learn

Working in an actual dealership or service center, you will learn to identify and analyze problems and apply real-world solutions. Choose one of the hundreds of independent shops or one of many ACDelco TSS service centers, or a Utah dealership.
Your instruction and training at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ cover:
- Shop safety, CCAR hazardous waste handling, and pollution prevention practices
- Electronic service information usage
- Theory, diagnosis, and operation in all 8 ASE Education Foundation automotive areas on a vehicle
- Scan tool usage, both generic and manufacturer-specific scan tools
- Diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with an emphasis on using a common diagnostic process

- Access. You can join our program during the fall or spring semesters.
- You will get real-world experience, completing 640 hours of supervised work at an independent shop or dealership.
- You will also complete 900 hours of hands-on lab work on late-model Ford, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, and Chrysler vehicles.
Certifications You'll Prepare to Earn
- ASE Master Technician certification A1 - A8
- EPA Clean Air Act Amendment of 1990 (Section 609) Air Conditioning Certification
- Emissions inspection and maintenance certification, where applicable
