What is Weber State Baja?

Baja 91¶ÌÊÓƵ is a student organization from 91¶ÌÊÓƵ dedicated to enhancing our education through hands on application.  Throughout the year our Automotive and managerial skills will be put to the test.  Led solely by students we will be counted on to design, machine, fabricate, and finance our Mini Baja vehicle.  Taking our education outside of the classroom promotes teamwork and experience that cannot be gained otherwise.

What kind of competition is this?

The SAE Mini Baja is held annually throughout the United States and internationally.  The competition is comprised of three regional competitions in different locations each year.  We will be attending the Midwest competition held in Kansas and Oregon, where 140 university teams assemble to compete in a variety of static and dynamic events.  Static events include Design, Design Report, Cost, Cost Report, and Presentation.  Dynamic events include Acceleration, Traction, Maneuverability, Rock Crawl, Mud Bog, and Endurance.  The competition is held under the direction of major supporters such as the Society of Automotive Engineers, Briggs & Stratton, and Timken and gains media attention at the national level.

SAE Baja is a collegiate competition that focuses on all aspects of the automotive industry. Students who participate can learn from design to sales and fabrication to racing. Not only is it a fun competition, it is a magnificent opportunity to learn.

Baja SAE simulates real-world Automotive design projects and their related challenges.  Students must function as a team to not only design, build, test, promote, and race a vehicle within the limits of the rules, but also to generate financial support for their project and manage their educational priorities.

What is our mission?

We are a dedicated group of students who want to build upon the theories learned from traditional education by forming a team to plan, design, fund, build, test, and race an off-road vehicle.  We plan on taking the team from conception to the Baja SAE Midwest Regional Title.  Even though the group is in its infancy, we plan on making the competition part of Automotive tradition at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ.
