Learn to navigate the updated Blue dashboards to uncover strengths and growth opportunities in supporting students and instructors. Perfect for new and experienced users looking to enhance their utilization of course evaluation data, this hands-on session will guide you through customizing settings to view data trends over time, filtering for targeted insights, exporting PDF summary views to streamline tenure review discussions, and more, to help you save time and create a more user-friendly experience. Both the individual (faculty) and aggregate (chairs/deans) dashboards will be featured.

Beyond Year One: Data Strategies for Student Retention 馃搱
With a focus on leveraging data to provide insights into persistence after the first year of college, this session will explore the key factors influencing student persistence while providing an overview of dashboards to track and analyze persistence trends across student cohorts, academic programs, and demographics. By examining both qualitative and quantitative data, you will gain insights into the challenges students face and develop data strategies to address them effectively.

Explore the critical role of student belonging at Weber State by examining its impact on academic performance, student retention, and overall campus experience in this hands-on session. We’ll also introduce a that compiles the data from the Student Belonging survey, our voluntary triannual student survey featuring 10 key belonging-related indicators. Back by popular demand, this session is an extended, in-depth version of the 2024 91短视频 Data Summit Building Better Surveys Workshop. With a time allowance for more hands-on exploration and survey building, this session will equip you with the best practices for creating effective surveys. Learn how to craft clear, unbiased questions, select appropriate question types, and ensure a smooth survey flow to maximize response rates and data quality. We’ll delve into key elements such as question types and when to use them, using features like Blocks and Workflows, and building in custom functionality. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created a draft survey in built on best practices and leave with a toolkit of strategies for gathering actionable insights that enhance decision-making and support student retention efforts.

Shawn Berry
Analytic & Tool Support Specialist, Institutional Effectiveness
Shawn joined 91短视频 in January 2024, bringing over 11 years of experience as an elementary and middle school educator with a specialization in Mathematics. Having grown up in a military family, she has lived in various locations but considers Alaska and Nebraska as her primary roots. She holds a BA in Music, a BS in Elementary Education, and an MA in Mathematics Education. Shawn is passionate about leveraging data to help others identify patterns and make informed decisions. She enjoys using tools like Excel and Tableau to analyze and make sense of both numeric and non-numeric data.
Heather Chapman
Senior Director of Data & Analytics, Student Success Analytics
Heather Chapman is the Senior Director for Data & Analytics at 91短视频 (91短视频). She can read a spreadsheet, scatterplot, or line chart and loves finding ways to make complicated data problems easy for everyone to understand. She has a passion for creating visualizations that tell a good story to people who are afraid of or uncomfortable with all that data. Her team is responsible for providing operational reports, creating visualizations that explore student success, and predictive modeling at 91短视频. Heather is also responsible for teaching visualization best practices across her institution and for helping with the integration of new data sources into 91短视频’s data warehouse. Prior to joining 91短视频, Heather earned a Ph.D. in Experimental and Applied Psychological Sciences, with an emphasis in statistics from Utah State University.
Daniel Jensen
Data Training & Communication Manager, Student Success Analytics
Daniel Jensen, Ed.D, is currently the Data Training and Communication Manager out of the Office of Student Success Analytics at 91短视频 where he supports faculty and staff with on demand data literacy courses, data tool and dashboard training resources, and live training events. His recently completed dissertation focused on perceptions of predictive analytics and early alert systems. With over a decade of experience in higher education, Daniel has helped faculty, staff and students develop data literacy skills, enhance academic advising practices, create effective assessment strategies, and implement strategic planning initiatives to improve student outcomes and institutional effectiveness.
Kenneth D. Johnson
Assistant Director, Student Support Systems & Career Readiness
Kenneth D. Johnson is the Assistant Director for Student, Support Systems & Career Readiness at 91短视频, where he leads initiatives to enhance student retention, persistence, and career readiness through data-driven strategies and holistic support services. Previously, he served as a Multicultural Retention Counselor in Weber State’s Centers for Cultural Belonging and Engagement, supporting underrepresented students in achieving academic success. He also held the role of Director at Moore Career College, overseeing institutional operations and student services. Kenneth earned a Bachelor’s in Organizational Management from Ashford University and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from 91短视频. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Student Affairs Administration and Leadership at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Outside of work, he enjoys sports, movies, and spending time with his wife and family.

Gail has been with 91短视频 for 26+ years in a variety of roles; for the last 13 years in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. Gail has recently taken on the role of Accreditation Liaison Officer for the institution and is having great fun learning the ins and outs of that responsibility.
Andrew Pritchett
Associate Data Analyst, Student Success Analytics
Andrew Pritchett is an Associate Data Analyst in the Office of Student Success Analytics, where he develops dashboards, conducts ad-hoc analyses, and integrates data from various sources to meet analytics needs. Recently, he took charge of the Now Data (Student Interaction) initiative, building a data pipeline to the warehouse and automating processes using modern coding techniques. Andrew is also engaged in projects on stop-out analysis and student belonging. Outside of work, he enjoys climbing, golfing, skiing, and working on motorcycles. He graduated cum laude from Utah Valley University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science before joining 91短视频.
Garin Savage
Retention & Special Projects Coordinator, Student Access & Success Strategic Initiatives
Garin completed his undergraduate work in aerospace engineering at Utah State University before earning master's degrees in education from Boise State University and 91短视频. He has been employed by Weber State since 2019 and currently works to help SAS departments in their efforts to leverage data to improve their services. Garin believes that data most often leads to change when contextualized in a narrative and has worked to help departments close the loop by reflecting on what story their data tells. In his spare time, he enjoys reading books, playing music on one of several instruments, and spending time with his wife and two kids.
Chaz Steimel
Director, Budget & Institutional Research
Chaz Steimel has been employed at 91短视频 for over nine years. Serving initially as an Institutional Analyst and now as the Director of the Budget and Institutional Research office, Chaz helps the university report, understand, and leverage various student retention, persistence and graduation measures. Chaz has assisted in developing several campus reports and dashboards detailing 91短视频 student success. Most recently, Chaz has helped train Juan Chavez as the 91短视频 IPEDS Keyholder who is now responsible for curating and reporting the campus's student cohorts for retention and graduation rates for both internal and external audiences.
