About the INT Attribution

By definition, the INT (Internship) Attribute designates a course or co-curricular experience as an "internship" and informs students that they will engage with professionals in experiential learning during the course or co-curricular experience.

Course instructors and co-curricular experience supervisors can apply for an INT Attribute in two easy steps:

Review the internship criteria for the INT attribution below.
Complete this .
- For courses, attach a copy of your syllabus to this form.
- For co-curricular experiences, attach a copy of the internship job description.

Once these steps are completed, the INT Committee will review your application. Upon approval, we will notify the course instructor or co-curricular experience supervisor.

91��Ƶ Internship Definition

An internship is defined as experiential education where students combine classroom learning with practical skills and application within a professional workplace setting. Students may earn academic credit for their declared major when the learning during an internship is related to their major and/or career interests.

An internship is student-specific, made with the specific student in mind.

The purpose of an internship is not simply to advance the day-to-day operations of the workplace but to provide a pre-professional career training experience. This internship must be a learning experience that applies the knowledge gained in the classroom.

Internship Criteria for INT Attribution

Set timeline: Internships tend to be project-based and may need designated start and end dates. Faculty should work with students to align the internship and course timing.

Location: Internships may be on-site with the employer and embedded within the company. Internships may be remote, working with an employer virtually or on-campus with an on-campus employer.

Assessment: The internship must have learning outcomes related to the student's professional growth and academic coursework approved by either the faculty member overseeing the internship course or the supervisor.

Course Credit: Students may or may not receive course credit for their internship. Requirements for receiving credit may vary from major to major. Contact your college’s Internship Coordinator for more information.

Compensation: Students may be paid or unpaid. If unpaid, employers must follow established guidelines set forth by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Skill Development: The internship requires students to use skills relevant to their field.
