To join, students must be a declared social work major and meet with the Departmental Honors Advisor, Rose Ybaben. Students must also:
- Complete all of the requirements for a social work degree
- Earn a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 and a GPA of 3.7 or higher in social work by mid-semester prior to graduation.
- Provide a letter of recommendation from a practicum supervisor attesting to and describing how the student has shown professionalism in their field internship.
- Choose ONE of the requirements from EACH of the following categories:
- Engagement:
- Attend at least two events through the Honors Program and two from your department, or:
- Enroll and complete an Honors (HNRS) course. View courses on the
- Apply to, and be accepted, as a member of Phi Alpha National Social Work Honor Society.
- Research & Scholarship:
- Publish an original work in a local, regional, or national refereed journal within your field of study, or:
- Submit a paper or proposal for publication/presentation in a local, regional, or national forum in the field of social work.
- Service & Leadership:
- Complete 500 hours or more of community service over a continuous period of time with a single organization within your field of study, to be assessed by mid-semester of your last semester (practicum), or:
- Service in leadership for at least two semesters for HSAB, 91¶ÌÊÓƵSA, or the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Social Work student organization, the Utah Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), or another local or national organization relevant to social work.
