Health and Wellness Consultations

If you want to improve your health and wellness, but don’t know where to start or feel “stuck,” we’re here to help!

Individual consultations with certified professionals are available as a free service to all 91¶ÌÊÓƵ students. We can help you identify resources, work through your barriers and set meaningful goals to achieve long-term change.

What can you help me with?

Though most students come to us to improve their diet and exercise, we can help with any of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness.

Though we provide a trusting, caring ear, it’s important to note that we are not trained in mental health treatment or diagnosis and we should not be used in place of counseling. If you have a mental health concern or crisis, please contact the Counseling and Psychological Services Center.

It’s also important to note that we are considered non-confidential. As such, we are required to report all disclosures of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, elder abuse, abuse against people with disabilities and instances of discrimination or harassment. For more information on campus reporting requirements and a list of confidential resources on campus, please visit the Safe@Weber.

What can I expect when I sign up for a consultation?

You will be asked to complete an  prior to your first session. This allows you to reflect on your overall health and wellness, your priorities and your readiness to change, so it’s important to complete it thoughtfully and thoroughly.

This assessment will guide our first conversation, which is the longest session you’ll have with us. Together, we’ll review your assessment and discuss what your long-term and short-term goals are. Please plan on this session lasting about 90 minutes.

Ultimately, the number of sessions you attend is up to you. Usually, we schedule a follow-up session one week after the first session – this gives you one week to work on your goals and get an idea of what may or may not work for you. Our second session is shorter and starts by reviewing your goals from the previous week, any progress or setbacks you’ve faced, and work together to set new goals that ultimately get you closer to where you want to be.

As you get better at this process, your sessions will get shorter and further apart until you feel confident to fly solo.

What will you expect from me?

We expect that you come to us ready to put in the work. Your goals are your goals – we can’t make you change. We simply expect you to do your best.

Can you just give me a diet or exercise plan that I can follow?

If we gave you a plan, you would eventually get bored and give up – and then what? You’re right back where you started! That’s why diets never truly work and exercise fads rarely last. Change is never one-size-fits-all and we aren’t here to tell you what to do – only you know what will work best for you! We’re simply here to facilitate the conversation and to help you find the answers on your own.

We don’t want to feed you for a day – we want to teach you to fish and feed you for life.
