Environmental Wellness
Environmental Wellness is the recognition of the interconnectedness between ourselves and the world around us. Both the natural environment (the air, water and land that surrounds us) and the environments we create (our homes, workplaces and communities) have significant impacts on our health and wellbeing. An environmentally well person recognizes their own responsibility towards their environment and strives to make a positive impact.
Tips for Environmental Wellness
Get Outdoors
Take time to spend outdoors and appreciate all that nature is. Find time to go out for a walk or hike that you would not normally do. Take some friends with you so you can all take a break from your busy schedule and take advantage of the great outdoors that surround you.
Conserve Energy
Turn it off! Whether that means turning the faucet off when you are brushing your teeth, or shutting off the lights when you leave a room. These are easy things that we can do to conserve energy and the best part, it will lower your bills.
Utilize Reusable Shopping Bags
Reducing the number of plastic bags you use will make a difference, and any extra bags you have find ways to reuse them or take them back to the store for recycling. Keep a stash of reusable bags in your car so that you never forget to grab some on your way into the store.
Travel Wise
Naturally, our go-to when traveling somewhere is to jump in our car to get from point A to point B. Although this might be what we find easiest, it is not always the best in our environment. When possible, find alternative ways to travel such as walking, biking, taking public transportation, or carpooling with a friend to reduce the number of cars on the road.
Use A Reusable Water Bottle
Rather than buying plastic bottles, find a reusable bottle that you like and can take places with you to fill up. This will lower the cost of spending money on water, and carrying a bottle with you will also help remind you to drink water throughout the day.
