Scholarships
The 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Department of Visual Art & Design offers a number of scholarships and awards each year.
To qualify for department scholarships, register on the in your student portal every year. Two of our scholarships, the Visual Art and Design Major Scholarship and the Carolyn R. Nebeker Art History Scholarship, require that you also submit additional materials after filling out the Specialized Scholarship Application. Please read the directions carefully.
All awards are decided by April for the following academic year.

Important Dates to Remember
- due Dec. 1, annually.
- Students also need to apply for FAFSA for both the Visual Art & Design Major Scholarship and the Carolyn R. Nebeker Art History Scholarship.
- Visual Art & Design Major Scholarships application due March 11, annually. After completing the Specialized Scholarship Application, send these to the department. The deadline for this application is March 11, annually.

Scholarship recipients will be notified of the award via email in late Spring '24 and scholarship awards will be effective during the '24-'25 school year.
B.Y. Andelin Scholarship in Art
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in Visual Arts, have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours at 91¶ÌÊÓƵ, have a major GPA of 3.0 or higher, and may be attending full or part time.
Uses
Tuition, fees, books or art supplies as authorized by the Visual Arts department.
Dale W. Bryner Scholarship in Art
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must be a full time student, majoring in Visual Arts with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
Uses
Tuition, fees (class and department fees are included), books, art supplies or other educational supplies as approved by the Department of Visual Arts.
Farrell R. Collett Alumni Art Scholarship
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in Visual Arts.
Selection Process
This scholarship is to be awarded annually by the Lindquist College of Arts and Humanities Art Department.
Uses
Tuition and fees.
Elizabeth Brown Dee Scholarship
Criteria
The scholarship recipient will be an outstanding Visual Arts major and must be attending full time.
Uses
Tuition and fees (class and department fees are not included). To fund one full in-state scholarship.
Douglas P. McFarland Memorial Scholarship
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in Visual Arts and have Senior standing. This information was obtained from the Development office files and Criteria from TRE.pdf
Selection Process
This scholarship is to be awarded annually by the Chairman of the Visual Arts department. Selection is to be based on talent rather than need.

Carolyn R. Nebeker Art History Scholarship
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major or minor in Visual Art & Design, have completed foundation level art history courses, and have a 3.5 GPA or higher. Preference will be given to students with an art history minor. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding scholarship in art history as evidenced by course grades, undergraduate research or written papers.
Carolyn R. Nebeker Art History Scholarship Application
After completing the Specialized Scholarship Application, send these to the department. The deadline for this application is March 11, 2024.
Students also need to apply for FAFSA.
Uses
Funding educational travel for the purpose of art history research within the countries of Europe. Travel may be with an approved art history study group, such as a university sponsored program, or it may be independent travel research, not necessarily associated with course credit.
Lani Berlin Prout Memorial Visual Arts Scholarship
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must be a full-time student with a declared major in the department of Visual Arts, be making progress towards a degree, have a minimum 3.2 GPA, and have financial need. The recipient should show unique promise in the Visual Arts.

Blanche B. Rich Visual Arts Scholarship
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major or have the intention of majoring in Visual Arts. Preference will be based on a combination of factors, which may include the following: cumulative grade point average, portfolio review, and writing samples. Students must submit a portfolio of their work.

Blaine B. Richards Scholarship in Art & Design
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major in Visual Arts or Design and an overall GPA of 2.75 or above. Preference shall be given to first generation students, i.e., parents did not attend college OR to those attending college in spite of significant obstacles, e.g. disability, widow/widower, single parent. The intent of this scholarship to provide assistance to a student who is making significant changes to their personal life trajectory. Preference will also be given to students with financial need (does not have to be determined by FAFSA).
Selection Process
The recipient shall be selected through nominations and applications by a committee made up of faculty from the Department of Visual Arts and Design. This committee must provide information to applicants about the submission process of documentation of first generation status, life obstacles and financial need. The intent of this scholarship to provide assistance to a student who is making significant changes to their personal life trajectory. Examples of significant obstacles could include: disability, widow/widower, single parent. The scholarship may be awarded to one or more students each year, based on available funds, however, the minimum award per recipient should be no less than $1,000. The scholarship may be awarded to the same student(s) for multiple years, as long as the recipient continues to meet the required criteria.

Charles J. and Inez Cortez Truscott Art Scholarship
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must be majoring in a Visual Arts program and be a resident of Weber, Davis, Morgan or Box Elder counties.
Uses
Tuition, student fees, class fees, other educational expenses.
Visual Art & Design Alumni & Friends Scholarship
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must have a declared major or minor in the Department of Visual Arts & Design and a minimum GPA of 2.5. May be enrolled full or part-time.
Uses
Tuition and fees, books, academic supplies, or other academic purposes deemed appropriate by the selection committee and department chair. At the discretion of the chair of the Department of Visual Arts & Design, funds may also be transferred to other restricted scholarship funds within the department as needed or if the balance in this fund is too low to award a direct scholarship in any year.
Keith W. Wilcox Scholarship for Art
Criteria
The scholarship recipient must be within the Visual Arts or Performing Arts departments.
Uses
Tuition, fees (class and department fees are included), and other educational needs.
Visual Art and Design Major Scholarship
Criteria
You must be a declared art major following art program requirements. (Preference will be given to students who have not yet completed degree requirements in art.)
Scholarship recipients must maintain a strong GPA while carrying not less than 12 credit hours per semester.
Application
In addition to completing the Specialized Scholarship Application, you will need to submit to the department. The deadline for this application is March 11, 2024. Students also need to apply for FAFSA.
