Study Abroad
As a DOVAD student, you will enjoy a variety of travel-study opportunities each year. Trips range from a few days to several weeks and in the past have included such trips as:
- Drawing on the Land: a week long sketching and drawing trip to a Capitol Reef National Park.
- The LA Trip: a busy long-weekend of museum and gallery visits in Los Angeles, CA.
- Photographing the West: A road trip to learn about history and photography in places like Big Sur and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Venice Biennale
A three-week, travel-study program in Venice, Italy, is offered by DOVAD every other year to coincide with the Venice Biennale, one of the most important contemporary international art exhibitions. Participating nations, individual artists and collateral events are staged across Venice from June to November every other year. DOVAD’s next scheduled trip is summer of 2024.
The program also consists of group studio work sessions and visits to art-historical sites throughout the city and beyond, including a day-trip to Padua to see the work Giotto, whose frescoes in the Arena Chapel are among the touchstones of the early Renaissance.
You will spend extensive time at the Venice Biennale writing about and discussing the works found there. Scheduled activities occur during the week, with free time on the weekends for activities such as trips to other nearby Italian and European cities.
Students receive both studio and art-history credit for participation in the program.
