Join us as we explore the world around us! Learn about the plants and animals in Utah’s varied forest habitats through dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Using cross-cutting science concepts, participants will engage in hands-on strategies for teaching arts-integrated activities in their classrooms.

This teacher workshop presented by the 91¶ÌÊÓƵ Arts Learning Collaborative will explore how adding improvisation to your classroom through music and play can foster creativity and confidence. Participants will take part in hands-on arts-integrated activities they can use to connect the Utah Fine Arts Standards with other subjects. This event is directed toward elementary music and general classroom teachers. Relicensure hours are available. Dinner and registration begin at 4:00.

Empowering Arts Educators: Building Arts Endorsement Competencies for Classroom Success
When: Summer 2024
Where: Utah Valley University - Orem (June 10-14) and 10 weeks asynchronous online
Cost: $65 per credit; 2-credit course (Scholarships Available)Led by artist and educator Korryn Coates, this 2-credit course, ADVANCED STUDIO WORK & 3D DESIGN, will use ceramics and sculpture techniques to explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design while developing advanced visual arts skills and competencies in ceramics and sculpture for K-12 teachers. Ceramics 1 or Sculpture 1 Pre-Requisite Required. Meets the following visual art endorsement competencies:
- Elem: Advanced Studio Work
- K-12 or Sec: Advanced Studio Work - Partial
- Elem, Sec, & K-12: 2D/3D Design

Participants will experience a guided drawing session led by "Art Coach" Bruce Hucko. He will demonstrate how drawing directional lines can create three-dimensional geological forms on paper. Participants will draw a variety of landforms found in Utah's varied landscapes and compile their drawings in a simple book. At the end of the webinar, participants will have a completed book full of landforms drawings, plus the skills, confidence, and additional resources to take what they have learned and implement this lesson into their own classroom. In connection with the exhibition, All Together, Amongst Many: Reflections on Empathy, participants will look at how they can foster empathy and understanding through the power of art in the classroom. This in-person event will include a tour of the Shaw Gallery introducing the exhibition. Following the tour, participate in hands-on workshops that show how the visual arts can shape learning in the classroom. Presenters: Erinne Roundy (91¶ÌÊÓƵ) and Julie Gale (Utah Film Center).
Please note we will open the Shaw gallery at 5:30 pm for a special viewing of the exhibit by E4E participants.
